Five years agoThe walk to her apartment door felt like it was taking her forever to reach and she was climbing up two floors of twelve stairs with a heavy car seat with a heavy baby, heavy baby bag and some textbooks. It was a defeating walk and she pushed it with every step until she made it to her apartment door.
Digging through the baby bag she carefully placed the car seat on the floor and searched hastily for the keys because she now had to pee. Looking down at the crying baby boy that she had just given birth to two months ago—Kairo was letting the whole apartment building know that he wanted his diaper to be changed and a hot bottle to be placed in his mouth.
Finally feeling the keys at the tips of her fingers. Riley snatched them out and finally looked up her apartment door to be met with a big yellow paper that had EVICTION NOTICE printed all over it and she was to either pay the rent or move the hell out in a months time.
That paper sent her into a trans to where she forgot that she had a newborn on the floor that wanted some love and her bladder was about to explode at any given moment. Stuffing the paper in the baby bag she grabbed the car seat and unlocked the door to be met with a messy house but that was the last thing on her mind as she placed Kairo down and walked around all the textbooks on the floor along with takeouts of food and dirty diapers.
It was cramp time for exams and as she sat on the toilet to release everything that she drunk during the day she couldn't help but to feel like a waste with the sound of her son now sounding like he was hurting from the amount of crying that he was doing. Pulling up her pants, she tried flushing the toilet just to remember that she was supposed to contact a plumber to get it fixed but she forgot.
Just like how she forgot to pay the rent on time thanks to her newfound mommy brain and all it cons that comes with. Kairo was still wailing loud as hell and Riley just needed him to shut up so she can pass her exams tomorrow. Searching all around the kitchen she finally found a clean bottle and heated him up a fresh batch of breast milk, changed his diaper and he was dozing off.
Letting out a breath of relief as soon as her butt touched the sofa. Kairo was up again and she just couldn't help but to ignore him and read over the notes that she collected from class and her textbooks. She just needed to pass. The semester was almost over and she just needed Kairo to shut up so she can study.
"Shut up! Please shut up! Mommy is just trying to study so I can give us a better life." She pleaded and plugged in her headphones.
Slowly but surely she was losing it as the minutes ticked on by and she just sat there zoned out hearing her son crying through the songs that were desperately trying to block him out. Having enough of him and his antics. Standing to her feet, Riley grabbed his car seat and her keys before storming back out of her apartment building all the way to her car where she carefully strapped him inside before pulling off.
