Chapter 3: Brownies!

Hey Hey! This is chapter 3. I promised this for @Darcia_Lynn and I'm gonna deliver it!

Maelie POV

It was the weekend now and I was bored out of my god damn mind. I sat in my room, counting the knots in the carpet. Yeah. I was that bored! Drew walked into my room. "Morning Mae Mae!" he exclaimed, jumping over me and landing on my bed. I chuckled and stood up. "Hey Drew. What do ya want?" I asked, laying horizonatlly on the bed. "I can't say good morning to my little sister?" "It's noon." "Whatever." The doorbell rang. It was probably is girlfriend, Paige. It was weird. I only had two friends in school (where there are people surrounding me for 6 hours every week day) and Drew only spent so much time outside the house, and he's got a girlfriend. "I got it," Drew groaned, pushing himself off the bed. Problem was, mom's home. She reached the door and opened it before Drew could even reach the stairs. "Oh hello! Are you one of Maelie's friends?" Mom... One of the only people that can get a 20 year old girl mixed up with a 17 year old one. I chuckled as Drew raced up the stairs and ran to the door. I heard the shuffling of feet and mom's odd introductions. Note to self: NEVER bring someone of the opposite gender here. Ever. After I thought that they were gone, I slowly made my way up the creaky steps and to the cold hardwood of the hallway. I walked down to the kitchen and found mom... cooking? "Hey mom... Whatcha doing?" I asked, leaning against the arch in the doorway. "Just thought I would cook some brownies like I used to." I chuckled. "Can I help?" "Sure! Grab an apron and let's get cooking!"

About 5 minutes into making the batter, mom's cellphone rang. I sighed as she hurried to pick it up. She chattered away as she left the kitchen. I shook my head and continued mixing the batter. I decided to wear gloves, since I would have to wash my hands too many times. The gloves were almost entirely covered in batter. I don't know how, but it just happened. I stirred the batter, dully, as I waited for mom to come back. 2 minutes later, nothing. 5 minutes later, nothing. Another 5 minutes later, the doorbell rang. I stripped my gloves off and threw them in the trash. I dusted off my hands as I walked down the hallway to the door. I unlocked it and found Dani and Josh standing at the door. "Hey guys! What's up?" "We got bored and decided to come over," Josh smiled.  "How thoughtful..." I said, sarcastically. Yeah, Josh was now part of our 'crew'. Well, only a little. "You wanna go to the mall?" Dani asked. "We're - actually- I'm making brownies. You wanna help?" "Mmm. Sounds awesome." "Come on. I could use all the help I can get." I stepped aside and let the two in." I shut the door behind Josh and called into the house. "Mom! I have friends over!" What I got in reply was her chatting with her boss. Great. I shrugged and led Josh and Dani down to the kitchen. I threw them a pair of gloves each. "It's going to get messy." Dani shook her head. "Do I need to know?" "No. No you do not." We burst out into laughter.

We -actually Dani- started mixing the batter while Josh and I sat down at the kitchen table, watching. "How bored were you that you actually decided to come over?" I asked, tapping my fingers lightly on the table. "Come on. You know we weren't bored. You were alone on a perfect Saturday afternoon! That spells boring with a capital 'B'!" I chuckled. "Well..." I rolled the 'l's with my tongue, trailing a little bit. "There is something fun about this place..." "How so?" Dani asked, stirring the batter one last time. "I'll show you guys later, first, we put the batter into the pans." We took our time slowly shoving the batter into the pans. I pushed them in the preheated oven. "Okay, now let's go downstairs. There's gotta be something fun to do down there." Josh and Dani perked up at the word 'fun'.

We ended up watching 2 hours of Spongebob, with one of us (me) going to check on the brownies. I don't want to say how I got stuck checking on the brownies, but I'm really bad at Rock, Paper, Scissors. I brought the plate full of brownies down and we gladly ate. I started singing the F.U.N. song from that one Spongebob episode,

"F is for friends who do stuff together,

U is for you and me,

N is for anywhere or anytime at all down here in the deep blue sea!"

Dani and Josh looked at me and started laughing. I let out a few giggles here and there. I decided that after an hour of sitting on the floor, watching Spongebob, your ass gets really stiff and cramped. Now, my seat was in the loveseat next to Josh as Dani insisted on laying down on the floor. For comfort, I threw in my blanket and pillow. Literally. I sat half cuddled on Josh's side, watching Spongebob and Sandy get fake married. I shivered. It was kind of cold down here. Josh wrapped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him, heating me up. It made the blood rush to my cheeks as well. "Thanks," I whispered.

At about 3 o' clock, Dani had to go home since she had to babysit her cousins for the rest of the day. Josh had to leave because he was Dani's ride home. I waved goodbye to them outside as they pulled away from the house. That car of Josh's is so beat up it looks like it could've broken down in a second. Once they were out of sight, I turned back and went back into the house.

I cleaned up the kitchen and stuff like that and went down to my room. I softly sang along to Angel of Mine by Monica,

I thought about how I cuddled with Josh for a second. I felt right. I don't know why. I shrugged and let the voice of Celine Dion grace my ears....
