Mina's POV
Sana and I walked towards the class. My brain was still full of thoughts and regrets regarding my idiotic confession. I told her something that even I was scared to come to terms with on my own. Let alone straight up tell someone else. I wonder what Chaeyoung thinks? D-did her heart...what was it?...flutter?...as well? Does she feel the same spark that I do? No. No way. We just met yesterday. She doesn't think of me in any other way aside from a reference to draw.
"MYOUI!" A high pitched voice screeched in my ear. My head snapped to my side. Sana stood next to me with a disappointed look in her eyes paired with a glare,"Were you spacing out again? You really should stop that, you're disconnected from reality more than you're connected." With that she walked though a doorway. I followed suit.
We entered the classroom for first period. Today that would be math. In comparison to the rest of the class I seem to be very good in the subject. I understand everything straight away and pass on my knowledge to my peers easily. The teacher says I'm a "star pupil" or "model student" but I disagree. I'm not a perfect paper cut out of a person. I'm just me, normal Myoui Mina.
The more that I think about it the more me being a good student makes sense. Before this school I went to a far bigger and prestigious private school. My parents make good money but at the same time they are always working. Their resolve in that situation would be to send me to a private school. The kind where you live in dorms at the school. The campus was massive and the classes we took were two years above the grade that we were actually in. In sixth grade you are taking eighth grade classes and so on. Being put in classes for your actual grade level was unseemly, the worst of the worst.
The reason I stopped going to the school wasn't due to my family or anything. Instead it had to do entirely with the school itself. Kids stopped going one after the other since other, more affordable and yet similar schools popped up. Due to the lack of students the school had to make more money. They raised the prices of tuition and anything else regarding the school. Thanks to this even more kids dropped out.
One by one my class of 30 turned to a class of 28...26...25...21...20...18...14...finally it was down to 10 students. The school couldn't keep raising the prices like they had been. They ended up closing and every kid had to find a new school in the middle of the first semester of the year.
Both of my close friends, Momo and Sana, went to that school. Momo was one of the earlier drop outs but she was at school for a while. We were in the same grade and the same class in some years so I knew her pretty well. Sana was one of the 10 in my class that stayed to the end. We ended up getting extremely close to one another. Momo went to our current school, J.Y. Public, J.Y.P for short, for a while before Sana and I came. We all clicked immediately and became best friends ever since.
"Jeez Mina...what did I tell you about zoning out?" Sana groaned.
"That I should stop and I'm disconnected from reality more than I'm connected..."
"Well at least you remembered. Anyways look who I just found!" She gleefully pointed to the seat next to mine. That seat used to be empty. My desk along with the one beside it were there for students transferring from my old school. Actually the whole back row was for people transferring. It was no surprise when not every seat was taken, the one next to me was empty and so were two others. So, it was super surprising to see that someone was in the seat next to mine.
I was semi excited to see who I'd be partners with for the semester or so. My eyes went straight to the chair. Sana was right, someone was in it. The person and I made eye contact. We just looked at each other for a solid 10 seconds.
Of course if all people it had to be her. It had to be the girl that I completely embarrassed myself in front of this morning. Of course it had to be Son Chaeyoung.
"Go get 'em, Tiger," Sana giggled before patting me on my back.
I slowly made my way to the back of the classroom. Heat rose to my cheeks, probably making my face a pinkish red color. I could feel people looking at me and whispering. They were likely recounting what happened earlier today.
I stood right next to my seat. Chaeyoung looked up at me. Our eyes met and yet no one said a word. We were surrounded in our own awkwardness and other's whispers.
"Hey..." She hesitantly said,"I-uh-I was moved to this class cuz my old one was too crowded. This was the seat that the teacher gave me. I didn't choose. Not that I wouldn't choose to sit by you! Just that after today I-uh-yeah. Oh I'm rambling aren't I?" Chaeyoung's words became faster and quieter as time went on.
"Yes, you are rambling. It's alright though," I giggled at her cute naïve nature. She flashed me a half smile before signaling me to sit down. Her eyes held something that I couldn't quite grasp. Worry, hope, embarrassment, happiness, terror. All of these were present in her eyes. I just want to know how I can erase all of the bad emotions and replace them with love.
