It was everywhere. The whole student body knew. That's why everyone was giving Kankri sympathetic look. That same look you give a mother with a small child, that same look you give an old man.

It was the look they gaveKankri when his mom died.

Three days after the funeral, Kankri was back. He was back in the scheme of high school. The classes and cliques and condoms.

He dragged his feet to second period. He had been late. Kankri had no motivation this morning. He opened the door and slid Into his desk. "I'm sorry I'm late." He whispered.

He looked like shit. He hadn't ate or drank or slept in days. He spent his vacant house with his best and only friend, his razor blades.

It was only when he saw Cronus' worried expression did the world have a little colorAnd meaning.

Cronus had switched seats with Porrim after tapping her shoulder and motioning. He then switched with Kurloz so he was now sitting behind Kankri.

He tapped his shoulder and slid a note onto his desk.

'you doing okay, chief?'

Kankri's common sense was a big blob of pudding.

'Everything is dull.Nothing means anything.'

Cronus ripped off a piece of paper from his notebook.

'yes it does. if it makes you feel any better, i think you're really cool. i have no idea what you're going through but i want to try and make it at least a little bit bareable.'

And Cronus, being the freshman he was, had drawn little dinosaurs around his note.

Kankri folded the note and smiled. Maybe the world did have meaning.
