I raced towards her standing figure at the front door. "Natalie! Where were you?" I asked, relief showering over me.
"Dude! Something amazing happened!" Natalie beamed, a somewhat large grin on her face.
"Really? Like what?" I asked cautiously.
"So you know how it's Halloween and stuff?" She started happily."Yeah?"
"This means that a lot of people will want to go into the woods... but they're coming from the west side. We are on the east. I was thinking, since all the killers are going to go to the west for their 'special' killing spree; it will maybe give us a chance to go outside for a little." She grabbed my shoulders and shook them hardly.
"R-really?" My thoughts wandered to Toby. He's a killer and he is certainly somewhere near us.
I do want to go outside... but what if I get killed."Yeah, dumbass! You can go outside!" I stared at Natalie, who looked happier than she ever was.
Her gruff laughter echoed through her home as she latched onto my wrist and dragged me towards the front door.A small smile crept onto my face as I noticed small sparks start to burn from behind Natalie's glistening emerald eye.
You know what? Fuck. It.
Natalie swung the door open and we both immediately race outside.
Piles of orange, red and yellow leaves covered the forest floor, making it almost impossible to see the dead grass and mulch underneath.
The damp yet cold air carried the soft scent of mist and rain throughout the forest.
The sun still continued to rise; making the colours pink, purple, red, orange and blue splash onto the sky like paint on a canvas.
I lifted my arms into the air and laughed hysterically.
It felt like I was free... even though I fully know that I'm not.
On a regular day, I would be killed the second I step outside.Even if most of the killers are preoccupied with killing the dumb teenagers that enter these woods on this special day, there's still killers like Toby who are roaming around where the cabin is.
I could feel something cold and damp thrown at my back.
I spin around to see Natalie, her face screaming that she was trying hard not to laugh."Did you... did you just throw a pile of leaves at me?" I lifted an eyebrow.
"No..." she scoffed.
That's it.
I knelt down and grabbed a handful of leaves; the wet mulch attached to them staining my hands.
I slowly got to my feet and harshly threw them at Natalie's face. Her eyes widened and her mouth gaped open.
I silently giggled until I felt another pile of leaves being tossed at me.
I froze."You're on."
Through the next ten minutes we endlessly through piles of leaves at each other while laughing, running and screaming.
By the end of it we were both panting messes.
Natalie laid in a pile of leaves, looking like a child trying to make a snow angel.
I happily laid down beside her; a shiver running up my spine as my exposed neck touched the cold dirty grown."If... if I wasn't living with you... would- would you be with them. The other killers, I mean...
would you be in the west with them?" I ask still breathless. An awkward silence over came us until a raspy sigh came from Natalie.
"No... no I wouldn't be with them.
You see, I really don't like them and... and what they do... is like a celebration, you see?" Natalie began, an utter look of annoyance on her face.
