// CHAPTER EIGHT:: rain, questionable
feelings, and other drugs //"DO you have everything?" Roxanne asked Audrey as they stood outside with the other parents, who was hugging their kids goodbye. Audrey fixed the the straps on her book bag and nod, "Do you have your phone? Is it charge?"
"Everything is with me and charged, mom." Audrey chuckled, waving the phone she had in her hand, "Plus, it's only for a weekend. What's the worse that could happen? I get lost in the middle of nowhere?"
"Yeah, maybe." Roxanne shrugged, worry on her face, so Audrey gives her a soft smile.
"Mom, please.."
"What?" She asked, "I'm not doing anything."
"Your poker face is creeping through and scaring me," She told her mother and laughed when Roxanne tried to fix her expression, "I'll be okay. Trust me, I want this trip to be over as much as you."
"Fine, come here." Roxanne held her arms open and Audrey walked into them, receiving a tight hug from her mother, "Just.." She sighed, "Just have fun and be careful."
"That'll be difficult," Audrey responded and Roxanne pulled away to put her hands on Audrey's cheeks.
"I wish you could do the things every teenager does, alright?" Audrey only nodded as she continued, "You, Audrey Stewart, are extraordinary and you may not have the fun you want now, but I hope you will soon."
She pulled Audrey in another hug and Audrey tensed lightly at the strange amount of love she was receiving from her mother, but chose not to question it. When they pulled away, Audrey noticed that everyone was getting on the bus, so she sighed, "That's my ride."
"I'll see you when you get back," Her mother assured her and Audrey nodded again, backing away from her mom, "Text me when you get there, okay? And be safe, don't do anything I would do, but if you do use protection."
"Bye, mom!" Audrey waved off and handed the staff her duffel bag to load onto the bus before getting on. Kids were already taking their seats and waving to their parents from the window, but Audrey went ahead and took her seat next to the opposite side of the bus so she could get a secluded window seat.
Purposely, she put her bookbag in the available seat next to her, but seconds later it was moved and replaced with Campbell, "Really, Campbell?"
He gave her a grin and she rolled her eyes, "Your mom is really sweet." She furrowed her brows and he held out a brown bag with her name on it, "She made me lunch."
"Oh, don't be an ass this early in the morning." She snatched the bag from his grasp and glanced in the bag to see her sandwich her mom made for the trip.
As she was putting the lunch away, Audrey was taken off guard when Campbell suddenly put his arm over her shoulder and moved close to her. She looked up with a raised brow, but noticed that Harry was walking down the aisle, having that be the first thing he saw as he went to his seat. He shared a look with Audrey, but kept walking when Kelly called his name.
"You know," Campbell suddenly said, bringing her attention to him. She kissed her teeth, knowing he did it on purpose, "This trip is going to be a bunch of hormonal kids by themselves for a whole weekend. Nothing to do, but 'help the environment' and all that other bullshit."
