Legends Never Die

Bryan stood in the middle of the baseball field, helping the camp staff clean up the dead bodies that littered the entire grounds. He saw a few people that he recognized but never got to know, some that he had no idea existed. Bryan was very surprised that he wasn't immediately shot dead once the fight really escalated. He was pierced a few times, but fortunately not in places that were deadly. All he needed were a few pain killers and some bandages.

Jeremy, on the other hand, had to get some serious treatment for two bullet wounds he took. One was the shoulder one that he witnessed, and another he took to the stomach. The doctors said he should heal up in no time, but Navarez was the real kicker. He was not healing hardly at all, and he was already bleeding internally during the fight. The nurse explained that he was probably not going to survive for much longer if the medicine doesn't kick in in the next couple of hours.

"Hey, Bryan?"

He turned around and saw Amelia walking towards him. "What's up?"

She paused and stared at him for a few seconds. Amelia stepped up to him and softly gave him a hug. "I'm so glad you're okay..."

Bryan smiled and returned the hug. "Me too, hun. Me too..."

Amelia kissed his cheek and stepped back and began to help clean up. Bryan gave her a confused look.

"Uh, you don't have to do that," he said. "You do know that they're dead bodies, right?"

She shrugged. "As long as they don't stink, I don't really care. My dad used to own a pig farm before we moved to Louisiana, so I was stuck to help clean up the waste they left behind. That's one thing I don't miss."

Bryan couldn't help but chuckle at that. "Well, I'm fortunate that I've never had to do anything like that."

A few minutes of silence passed, and Bryan suddenly noticed something. "Hey, where's Evelyn?"

Amelia looked up at him. "She's with Jeremy in the hospital. I think she said that she wanted to help watch over him."

He shrugged. In all honesty, Bryan had to feel bad for all of the nurses having to go overtime to help the wounded. The camp staff counted about a total of four hundred injured, alongside two hundred and fifty dead. Most of them were fathers and husbands.

Speaking of which, Jeremy's dad is also in the nurse's room, but only with minor injuries. The only concerning thing with him was that he took a nasty one to his arm, but nothing that a few stitches and shots couldn't fix.

"Should we go to visit them soon?" Amelia asked.

In case you're wondering, they haven't had the chance to visit Jeremy yet, since the nurses wouldn't allow it. So, Bryan was hoping that after an hour or so passed and everything calmed down, they'd let them in.

"We'll see," he answered. "We'll wait until tonight."

She nodded. "That's a good idea. I'm worried about that Navarez guy, though. I saw him a few times, and he looked like he was about to pass out."

Bryan glanced over at her. "Yeah, according to Jeremy, he's a really good guy. It would hurt to see a guy from the military go like that."

"It would," said Amelia.

When Olivia heard the news about her big brother and her daddy, she had to demand the nurse to go see them. After a while, they finally let them see Dad, but not Jeremy for some reason.
