"Uhm, my favourite colour is green," he starts.

I chuckle. "No, something... deeper, like... tell me about your family." His eyes darken.

"You don't want to know about them."

I frown. "I'm pretty sure I do... Look, Zachariel, we're Soulmates. God, or not, we belong together. I want to get to know you, the good, the bad, and the ugly."

He watches me for a while, before he sighs, his gaze dropping. "Fine. My parents are still together, both Angels. My mom has wings as white as yours used to be. My dad... well, his are dark. Not as dark as ours, of course, but very dark. My dad is an alcoholic- he beats my mom... and me. At least he used to, until I beat him back, and called the cops on him. He's been in prison for about a year..."

I rest my hand on his. "I'm so sorry, Zachariel..."

He smiles sadly at me. "It's alright. They're the reasons I wanted to find the truth. My dad... he was a drunk because he had no hope left in God... so I went looking for hope- and instead I found that he was right."

I put my hand on his cheek, and he closes his eyes. "Well, if you have no hope left in God, have hope in this- in us," I whisper.

He opens his eyes, and I slowly put my hand back down.

He leans in, and I mimic him, until he's millimetres away. Our breaths mix, until he finally leans in the last little bit, gently putting his lips on mine.

I've never been kissed before. I was saving it for marriage. But now... now that nothing matters, I know that this is what I want.

I want to be with Zachariel.

When he finally pulls away, we press our foreheads together.

"Zachariel," I whisper. When he doesn't respond, I keep going. "I want you to meet my parents."
