Chapter 7
The rest of the week was the same. We hung out a lot, got Damon and Cyr back into Damon’s place and I attempted to not eat meat. Of course Damon was a sweetie and barely ever let me. We got really close and sadly, it was my last day before I had to fly back. We had decided that I would spend it with Damon.
He picked me up at around ten and we went back to that sushi place from the first time we went out for lunch. He still had a little trouble with chopsticks but he wasn’t quite as sad as last time. Damon was still as awkward as ever, but that’s one of my favorite parts about him.
We hung out back on the trail under the same tree as the sun started going down.
“I can’t believe you’re leaving tomorrow,” Damon said and tightened his grip on me.
“I know, I might cry just to warn you,” I replied and looked up into his pretty green eyes.
“I’m not going to lie, these last two weeks have been amazing,” He started and my heart started racing. I knew that this could be great or incredibly bad and my mind was programmed to assume the worst.
“I just really want to try and keep this going,” He said and my heart stopped. “I think I’m really falling for you.”
“You scared me for a minute there,” I said and relaxed into him. “I think I’m falling for you too Dee.”
“Oh my god, yes,” He released the breath he was holding. I moved up to kiss him and smiled into it.
“Ugh, I’m going to miss this,” I said and frowned.
“That doesn’t suit you hun,” Damon said. “But I promise to call every day!”
“Please do,” I said and smiled for him again.
“You know, I had really given up on dating before I met you,” Damon confessed.
“I was very much the same,” I said and watched him smile.
“I’m glad you came,” He told me. There wasn’t much left to say so I just kissed him. We hung out until it got dark and we had to stumble back to the car. I almost didn’t want him to leave, but he was coming with us to the airport at four in the morning tomorrow, so we all needed sleep. I kissed him quickly before getting out of the car.
“I’ll be out here at 3:30!” He called out the window.
“I’ll be here,” I said and almost fell over the curb. Damon laughed before I bolted up the stairs. Rachel and I had packed yesterday already and it kind of sucked. Destery had indeed asked Rachel out and things were going well between them. It was going to be tough since she was only 17 and couldn’t really just up and leave to go see him like I could for Damon. We didn’t really sleep, just sat in the living room and played video games and laughed. I’m sure the neighbors hated us by now. At 3:30 we all left and walked out to the car. Just like he promised, Damon was just getting out of his car and hugged me.
“Ready to go?” He asked.
“Not a chance,” I said and got in the car anyways. The drive was pretty low key compared to our outrageous singing marathons that happened the rest of the week. It’s crazy what two weeks can do huh? People hadn’t really started guessing that we were dating yet since Playlist was still an acceptable excuse even though I’d been in almost every vlog he’d done since the first one. The drive to the airport wasn’t that long and I clung onto Damon as we walked in. Rachel and Des were very much the same. We checked in and the boys walked us to the security gate. I hugged Blake first, knowing I’d see him soon enough and then they all gave Damon and I some space. I flung my arms around him and tried not to cry… This time it didn’t work and Damon tightened his arms around me. I buried my face in his shoulder.
“I’ll call you every day, I promise,” Damon whispered.
“God, you better,” I said shakily and pulled away to look at his face. He brushed some of my tears away with his thumb and kissed me.
“Call me when you land so I know you’re safe,” He told me.
“Of course,” I said and smiled, putting my hand up to his wrist. “I’m going to miss you.”
“I’ll miss you more,” He joked and we hugged again before he let me go. “Don’t miss your plane.”
“Bye Damon, I’ll call you,” I said before going through security and waited for Rachel. Damon waved as she pulled me away and I saw him wipe his eyes too. He’s such a sweetie. Rachel wasn’t quite as shaken up as me, but she wasn’t as attached either. Once we got to the gate, I pulled tissues out of my bag to get rid of the last tears.
“Oh my god honey, are you okay?” A kind looking woman asked from across the aisle.
“Yes, thank you,” I replied politely.
“What happened?” She asked again.
“I have to leave my boyfriend here,” I explained.
“I know what that’s like, my husband is in the military,” She said and put a hand on my knee like a mother would. “You’ll make it through, I promise.”
She was a nice lady, we talked to her a little more. Her name was Angie and she was visiting her sister. I showed her some of the pictures Damon and I had taken and she recognized him.
“My niece loves him,” She laughed. “She’ll be quite disappointed.”
“He’s a really sweet guy,” I said and scrolled through the pictures on my phone.
After that, we had to board the plane and a few short hours later I was walking in my front door and dialing Damon’s number into my phone.
“Hello?” He said groggily.
“Hey sleepyhead,” I replied with a little laugh. I had the biggest smile on my face just because I could hear his voice again.
“Hey Darling, how was the flight?” He asked me.
“Not too bad, I met a nice lady,” I told him all about her.
“That’s great, I miss you already,” He replied. “We should Skype later.”
“That would be great!” I said and dumped my bag on my couch.
“Oh and guess what?” He burst out.
“Alright, what?” I laughed, he’s so adorable!
“Someone finally started everyone on guessing!” He told me.
“That’s hilarious, what’s the status on that then?” I asked.
“I think everyone will be convinced by tomorrow so I’ll upload some of the other clips in a video then,” He said. “I think you’ll like it.”
“I know I will,” I told him. I laid on my bed as we talked for a good hour. We hung up after I sent him back to bed and I had the day to myself. I couldn’t think of anything fun to do so I kind of just slept and read through some of the comments on Damon’s video.
