Chapter 3

You peered into the microscope at the scale you picked up from Eren's. This was incredible, it was nothing like you had ever seen! The scale wasn't like other reptiles, it was much different. You wondered if there were any scales at the lake where Armin saw the creature.

"Fascinating..." you said, watching with amazement as the cells moved around in the scale.

You then pulled out the footprint mold and measured it.

"Three feet," you said,"Not bad."

Your stomach growled. Crap, you forgot to get groceries. Suddenly, a thump sounded in the backyard. You raised a brow and walked out the back door, flicking on your flash light.

"Hello?" you called, looking around.

A shadow shifted nearby, and you flicked the light towards it. It was a plastic bag. You blinked and walked towards it. Looking inside, you saw it was a bunch of freshly caught fish.

Confused, you looked around and brought the bag inside. You pulled out a fish.

You gasped,"Trout! My favorite!"

But wait...you shouldn't eat it, who knows where its been. And why should you eat trout that was randomly left in your backyard?

Your stomach growled again, and your mouth watered on cue. You really did like trout...

You sighed,"Screw it."

You decided to cook it in lemon juice and other spices. It was really good in the end, and it didn't seem to be poisoned or anything. You probably should've been suspicious of a random bag of fish outside, but oh well, free trout!

The Next Day

You walked up the steps to the apartment and knocked on the door. And young woman with short black hair and dull brown eyes opened the door.

"You must be (Name), come in." she said, opening the door wider.

"Thanks, and you must be Mikasa." you smiled.

She didn't smile back, but shook your hand,"Yep, nice to meet you. Take a seat."

You nodded and sat down on the couch, pulling out your note pad and pen,"So, mind tell--"

"Okay, before we start, I just want to say that I've always had trouble in believing stuff like this..." she fiddled with the red scarf around her neck,"And, I'm still a little shaken up about it, but, please hear me out, everyone I know has turned my story down as a bad dream."

"Don't worry, a lot of people couldn't believe, like me," you said reassuringly,"I was just like you, sitting alone in my apartment...and then I saw my first crypto, and it still gives me goosebumps thinking about it."

"Well, thanks for understanding me." she said, smiling a little.

She sat down next to you and began telling her story.

I was alone at work when I saw it. It was nine o'clock and I had to lock up soon, that's when I heard the trashcans being knocked over outside. I figured it was a homeless person looking for a quick meal, so I headed out to shoo them away. Unfortunately, it wasn't as I had thought. I walked outside with my flashlight and looked around, then I saw a figure hunched over the fallen garbage. I called out to them, saying they couldn't be here and had to leave. Then that...thing, looked me dead in the eye, and my whole body went still. I watched as it wiped its mouth and walked away. I managed to pull out my phone and snap a photo, then rushed inside to call the police. They filed my report, but they didn't believe me.

You froze,"Wait, you say you got a picture??"

"Y-Yeah, I have it on my phone." she said, pulling out her android and showing you the picture,"Luckily it was on flash."

You scanned the picture in shock. It was big and tall, like Eren had described it, its skin glistening with black scales. It had a long lizard like tail and claws on its five fingers. The creature was looking away from the camera, but by the back of its head, out could tell it must've had human like features.

"This is...great Mikasa!" you said excitedly,"Can I have you print this for me? I'd love to send it to my boss."

"Certainly." she said, taking her phone from you.

"Normally people are too shaken up to take pictures, but your mind knew what was up," you said, writing things down on your note pad, then took Mikasa's hand in both of hours,"Mikasa, thank you, I am one step closer to catching this thing."

"Um, you're welcome?" she said awkwardly.
