Chapter 7

You strapped a headlight to your forehead and exited your car. You had called ahead to let Eren know you were doing a night investigation in his backyard. To be honest, you were quite nervous about the whole thing. You were actually afraid of the dark, but you had to face your fear some time. You turned on the FLIR radar and began on your way.

The area around the brambles was red on the FLIR. You walked through the trail and saw that there were hot footprints on the ground, he must've been here recently.

You continued your trek through the forest, watching the FLIR closely for any heat. You were fairly well far into the forest when twigs snapped behind you. You whirled around and checked the FLIR, nothing. You suspiciously continued on your way, starting to get a little worried. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea...?

Suddenly, the branches above you snapped, and several pine needles fell on your face. You scoffed and brushed them off, then pointed the FLIR up at the trees. Nothing. You looked back at the trail and your light hit a black surface that was incredibly close to you. You froze and slowly looked up at the reptilian, who seemed to sneer down at you, its warm breath caressing your face.

Suddenly, the creature grabbed you and threw you over its shoulder. You dropped the FLIR in your shock.

"H-Hey! PUT ME DOWN!" you yelled, pounding on the creature's back.

It ignored you and began walking down the trail. You continued struggling until you realized it wasn't any use, so you boredly slumped over the creature's shoulder. The terrain turned from leaves and dirt to rocks, and you realized that you were at the lake.

"You gonna put me down any time soon?" you grumbled.

The creature grunted and stopped shortly before leaping into the water, taking you down with it. Air bubbles left your mouth as you managed to wriggle out of the reptile's arms. You tried to swim back to the surface, but something grabbed your ankle and you were dragged further down the lake. Somewhere along the bottom, your head hit a rock, and you blacked out.

Later

Your fingers brushed against soft blankets, but damn this mattress is like a rock! Your eyes shot open, then you realized exactly how cold you were. Your hoodie and mittens were soaked, your jeans and fuzzy boots as well. You sat up and saw that you were in some sort of under water cave, finely decorated with a couch, table set with chairs, the blankets you were lying on, and a mattress on top a mattress next to you. Oh, you must've rolled off.

You wrapped the blankets tighter around you and shimmied back onto the mattresses. You lied down on your side and shut your eyes, much better. Suddenly, the water rippled violently and a loud grunting sound came up. The creature rose up from the water and fell on the shore. It dragged its form to the couch as scales fell rapidly from its body, and he became...

L-Levi?

You turned on your side when he began to stand, you should give him his privacy anyways...You heard him shuffling about the room, then he walked closer to you. The mattress shifted and he lied down behind you. You swallowed the lump in your throat, completely nervous, but you stayed still and pretended you were sleeping.

Levi drew closer to you until his chest pressed against your back. You flinched away, then mentally slapped yourself when you realized what you had done.

"I knew you were awake." he said.

You turned and looked at him, relieved that he was fully clothed,"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Tell you what?"

"Don't act so innocent, you know what I'm talking about." you snapped.

"Hey now, I thought it was obvious." he said, propping his head in his hand.

"Well I thought it was just some weird thing with you, ugh! We just met!" you huffed, sitting up,"And its not like I was gonna ask 'hey buddy are you the lake monster?'"

"I gave you hints." he shrugged.

"Dude, we just met. I barely even know you." you replied, then came to a realization,"What time is it?"

Levi turned his head to the clock on the cave wall,"A quarter to six."

"Okay good..." you sighed, flopping back on the mattress,"Can I leave?"

"No, not yet at least."

"Why?" you asked, giving him a quizzical look.

"I want to know what you're going to do, now that you know where the lake monster lives and all." he explained.

"......Oh..." you bit your lip in thought,"Well..."

Of course you had to turn Levi in, you had no choice, its your job on the line! But from what you've seen, it was like a werewolf situation, he couldn't help but transform.

You sighed,"Give me some time to think, until then I won't say anything."

He nodded in agreement,"Okay, but I'm warning you, I know where you live, don't try anything."

"Okay, okay, jeez." you rolled your eyes.
