Akira’s POV

I wake up startled, not having realised that I had fallen asleep on the couch. I hear the soft snores of Rae as she leans on spooky, she’s sleeping off the alcohol. Ren sits still, her eyes are closed but I know that she is not sleeping, just sitting back quietly. Most likely not wanting to be disturbed at the moment.

I frown as I look for Maureen and Todd and I can hear their whispers coming from the kitchen. I get up quietly and sneak towards the kitchen, turning myself invisible as I go. Even though I am invisible I still feel better if I stealth around like a ninja instead of just being normal in my walking ways.

I sadly don’t catch much of the conversation just a few words like prophecy and danger and capture. You know, normal warm fuzzy things your guardians usually talk about.

I decide that I really don’t want to eavesdrop on their conversation, I don’t want to hear their terrible thoughts on what was to come. I don’t need to. We all know what’s coming, and we all know that it most likely wont be pretty, but we have to try our best. We can’t be taken by them again. We can’t let them have us because who knows what will happen if they ever do reach us, capture us and take us back. to the lab.

I go to the garage, looking through Todd’s and Maureen’s cars to make sure everything was packed. Todd and Maureen were going to take Maureen’s ford and we were going to take Todd’s Volvo splitting up and if there are survivors of the night, hopefully that running them off our trail. We planned to meet up in one week in Sanlune, which was ironically enough about a weeks drive away, where a shifter group was willing to take us in and hide our trail for a little bit. It’s nice to have a guardian whose friends with an Alpha. Plus it helped that Emmie was also a shifter.

After checking six times that all our important bags were there I went back inside and looked at the time. Half-past twelve is what the clock read. I checked the living room to see that the others hadn’t really changed much since I left.

I see Todd and Maureen were still huddle in the kitchen so I sigh and move forwards and up the stairs, grabbing some snack foods before I go to check on Emmie. Maybe she needs some company, having been up there for so long.

I go out the door to the garden, skirting around the hole still in the air and walking to the edge near where Ember had pointed out the hunters camp being. I see her, sitting on the edge of the wall around the garden just watching the forest.

“Want some food?” I ask her as I climb up and sit beside her.

“Sure, thanks.” She says as she takes the food I hand her gratefully and munches on it without really looking down at it.

“Anything interesting happen?” I ask her and she shakes her head.

“Every so often they’ll flicker lights or someone will come close to the property line but they always retreat quickly. It’s as if they’re wanting to lure us out to them first.” She ends in a whisper before crumpling up the garbage from her food.
