"Echolight! Come quick! Brightstar has fainted!" Brackenstorm said worriedly the moment the medicine cat returned. Echolight and Fernpaw ran to the leader's den where Brightstar lay, unconscious. Echolight put her tail near Brightstar's nose to check for breathing. She then listened for a heartbeat. "Everything is normal. It's highly likely she just fainted from fatigue. Just let her rest. " she reported. As she and Fernpaw were about to leave, Brackenstorm called them. "Brightstar said something before she fainted!" Echolight whipped her head around to listen. " A golden fern, with a path different from the mist, shall light the way in dark times." he recited. Echolight looked surprised. "Er ------ okay. Thanks." she and Fernpaw then hurried back to the medicine cat's den.
"Fernpaw, did a Starclan cat tell you about something's bad going to happen?" Echolight asked. Fernpas bobbed her head up and down. "It's likely that Starclan told Brighstar that message too. " Echolight sighed. " Something bad will happen, but we don't know when or what..."
Brightstar regained consciousness just as it was sun-down. What had happened? Did I just pass out? Brightstar burst out of the leader's den and ran to Brackenstorm. " What happened before I fainted?" she questioned. Brackenstorm filled his leader in on what had happened, reciting what Brightstar had said, word for word. Brightstar was appalled. The prophecy. Would Echolight be able to decipher it?
