Ahmad did not say anything. He stopped gazing from one parent to the other,his mother sat huddled up on a low stool she used in the kitchen,she had since been begging her husband to change his decision towards their son,actually Ahmad thought his father was not serious,as he was found of driving out everybody who disobeyed him
After he had simmered down,he would ignore the person when he came back.
The last time Ahmad was sent our from the house was the previous year. When he newly started to move with Musa and one other boy they called Ibrahim. That fateful morning,Musa and Ibrahim had woken Malam mahmud and his family up at a quarter four O'Clock in the morning.
Their mission as they had claimed was to go and collect water from the stream with Ahmad as usual. Malam mahmud had told them that it was too early. Musa had replied that they wanted to go as many rounds as possible before sunrise. He had allowed Ahmad who had taken his old pail and followed them,at daybreak Ahmad had been dragged home by a friend of his father who lived very close to stream,he had narrated to Malam mahmud how they had been stealing his egg for the past two weeks. He had said that he decided to stay awake and know whether it was a spirit or a human being that had been stealing his eggs.
He had been lying in ambush when he heard his fowls squawking,everywhere had been dark. He had groped for his local riffle and fired it into the air. Ahmad and his friends had bolted away from the pen and had struggled for their way in the dark. Ahmad had skidded off his course and fell down. he had been caught while others escaped.
After he had produced Musa and ibrahim as the man had demanded,the three of them had contributed and repaired the pen,paid for the previous missing fowls and also paid for the ones they had crushed to death while struggling to get out that morning finally,Ahmad had been thrown out of the house after his father had been paid the expense nobody restrained him from entering his room
"I say what are you doing here, Ahmad?'his father brought him to the present
"I don't want to see you in my house again😣"
"If i tell you that I'm not tired of you,i'm lying;he said in a loud voice.
"I said go out"!he bellowed and rushed into his room as if somebody was after him;very likely to get his gun or matched.
Before he could come out,Ahmad has disappeared while Saratu his mom was sulking.
Ahmad did not have the courage to go and sleep with musa at night
Though his parent would not mind,but he did not want to try the old man's patience. Neither could he summon the boldness to go to any other person's house that night,after having walked round the village naked.
He went into the bush where nobody would see him. Soon, it was dark. Ahmad remained there and kept a stiff upper lip,something made him get afraid a snake hissed somewhere around him,he ran back to his fathers house ,he had decided to go in and seek for his fathers pardon. But his courage failed him. He tiptoed to the back of the kitchen and peeped at his parent through an opening on the wall.
Saratu was still sulking,begging her husband to go with her and search for their son. Ahmad felt very sorry for what he had done,he instantly made up his made to turn over a new leaf,he decided to select his friends,go back to school and always pray.
He wondered why his father could not be considerate,at least to his wife,as saratu went on with her crying and pleading to a stone hearted man,three drops of tears rolled down Ahmad chicks ,the worst happened when his father threatened to beat his mother😪if she mentioned anything like Ahmad to him again. He disclosed with he wished Ahmad did not run away when he came out with his gun.
As he was saying all this his wife was crying,at last she went into her room and come out with other lantern,she dashed out to the outer compound,calling Ahmad. she sobbed has she called,if not Ahmad heard his father he would have answered her......
