The gang leader,Tanko asked snake (lawal's nick name) why did not Ahmad to his own house. He replied that he had not seen him since then. Ahmad was asked why he did not contact him. He told them he wanted to stay where the villagers would not see him. Wizzy(Usman) another member of the gang said that he should have stayed away from the villagers. Ahmad was asked by Tanko if he would follow them. He concurred. Tanko assured him that his problem as come to an end. Ahmad smiled and felt relived. They all relaxed and waited for the early morning bus.(Big Boys😎).
Lawal and his gang had entered the primary school premises as usual. They did this whenever they robbed around the village. While they had been looking for chairs to relax on, Tattoo guy( Abdullahi) had spotted Ahmad's leg with his torch and Wizzy had dragged him out.
The sound of the first vehicle that passed on the road made Tanko peer at his wristwatch. It was four minute to five. He commanded others to carry their bags to roadside. Ahmad was handed a heavy bag by lawal to carry. He guessed that it was loaded with clothes. Tanko carried a portfolio. As they were going down to road,Lawal assured Ahmad that he was safe with them. That he should not entertain any fear as he would be coming the next day.
No sooner had they got out of the school premises than a 608 bus pulled up beside the road,in front of them. Through the back door the conductor alighted and dutifully carried their bags into the bus. They all got seated in the midst of other passengers. Ahmad sat by Tattoo Boy. He was very delighted to leave the village at last, perhaps for good. While still in his happy mood,he thought of the fact that he was going to live with those four ominous dream. But one does not ignore a war for the fear of being shot, he thought and made up his mind like a man and kept calm.
When there was enough daylight inside the bus,Ahmad looked round to see other passengers faces. At the other side of the seat where he was sitting, a pretty young girl of fourteen was staring at him. He wondered why she was looking at him like that. Was he handsome?😂, Had she seen him somewhere else before? Was he ugly? NO!.
Ahmad felt she was not looking and took a quick look at her. But she was still staring at him. He noticed some admiration in her eyes. He went shy and bent his head😆. at his legs. He noticed that his legs were as dirty as those of pigs🤣. Slowly, he looked at both his shirt and trousers and found that he was very dirty. He knew that even his hair was unkempt. He slowly raised his face looked at the girl. She was still staring at him. She smiled shyly. Ahmad frowned at her and looked away.
Soon,an elderly man climbed up the bus and stood at the passageway. All the seats had been occupied. He was trying to maintain his stance as the bus was tossing them about. Ahmad who was ill at ease by the girl's stare obligingly offered his seat to the elderly man. He went to the back and stood where she could not easily see him. Still,she occasionally turned and looked at him. Unfortunately for Ahmad ,the passenger by the girl alighted and Tattoo guy asked him to go and take the vacant seat. He cautioned him not to go up for anybody again that they paid for the seat.
