Takes place during season 2 !
Gilbert x female reader (:
Y/N = your name•••
"I don't want to work the curtains with Gilbert!" I scoffed. Everyone was currently setting up for the Christmas Pantomime, since it was in only 2 days.
Mrs. Lynde sighed. "Y/N... there isn't much else you can do. You know, with your ankle and such."
I looked down at my ankle. It was covered in white bandages. I had been running in a field one day with Anne and Diana when suddenly I landed in a gopher hole. My ankle was sprained and I had to use a walker to help me get around until it was fully healed.
"Please Mrs. Lynde. I will do anything else. I cannot work the curtains. Especially not with Gilbert Blythe." I pleaded, but her expression didn't soften.
"I'm sorry. But the decision is final." She patted me on the shoulder and then took her leave.
I stood silently in the church for a second looking around me before Anne and Diana made there way towards where I resided.
"What did Rachel say?" Anne questioned.
I shook my head. "What's done is done. I have no choice but to assist Gilbert with the curtains that I have absolutely no knowledge about."
"Why is it that you hate Gilbert so much?" Diana asked, pure concern was hinted in her voice.
I had opened my mouth to begin to speak but someone else spoke.
"Yes... do tell."
All three of our heads turned over to see none other than Gilbert Blythe.
"Hello... Gilbert." Diana said. Her eyes shifted from his to my own in a very uncomfortable manner. Then she grabbed Anne's hand. "I think Ruby needs us over there. Let's go!"
She whisked Anne away and left Gilbert and I standing alone.
"Gilbert." I said flatly.
"Y/N." He retorted in the exact same tone.
"I guess I am being forced to work with you during the Christmas Pantomime."
He chuckled. "You mean for me. I'm the head of curtains and props. You will have to do everything I ask."
I scoffed. "No... I will not. I will pull the curtains and do everything the way Mrs. Lynde wants it to be done."
He shook his head. "Fine then. Suit yourself. Get Mrs. Lynde to show you how to do everything then. You'll need the help, since you are a cripple and all." Gilbert began to walk away but I grabbed his arm. I had realized that I did need him to show me how to do things.
"I'm sorry... I let my temper get a hold of me. Can you show me how to control the curtains... please?" I gave him a stiff little smile and he returned one.
"Fine. Sure. Follow me."
...
My hatred for Gilbert had started when we were at the ripe age of 9. There was a town picnic happening at the Barry's pond and nearly every person in Avonlea was attending. I wore my very best dress and mother did my hair the most beautiful it had ever been.
My parents and I were set up at a spot near the Barry's, which led to Diana and I running around and playing. We had been in the middle of a princess game when suddenly Gilbert came up to us.
"Can I play with you?" He asked sweetly.
Diana and I looked over at each other. It was no secret that nearly every girl our age 'fancied' Gilbert. So we did what any young girl would do.
