"You are going to do great Y/N." My mother said as she rushed me out the door. I had missed the first day of school due to unfortunate circumstances (my female cycle) and I had opted out and rested at home instead.
But my mother was forcing me to go today. She said "You cannot miss another day! Enough of your excuses"
So I obliged... of course.
My mother walked me down to the end of our land. "You'll meet with Diana and Anne half way there, then the three of you can finish the walk together."
I had met Diana and Anne one day after we moved to town. They were playing in a forest and Anne had so graciously asked if I would join them. We had been close friends ever since then.
I nodded. "Yes mother."
She stopped walking and held me back for a second. "I love you, dear!"
And then I was off. Making my way to a school that I had never been to before. My mother had only told me how to get there, but I was bad at following instructions... and I got terribly lost.
I ended up in a field and on somebodies farm. I felt terrible- and dumb. But I had to knock on the door and ask for help.
I gently knocked on the front door and a sickly looking old gentleman opened it.
"Hello," He said weakly. "How can I help you?"
I began to speak, but a voice from inside the house cut me off.
"Dad! Get back to bed. I can take care of this." The voice said, and then whomever it belonged to stepped up and I saw their face.
It was a young boy with curly brown hair. He helped his dad back into what I presume is his bedroom and then came back up to the door.
"Can I help you?" He asked, very straightforward.
I found myself struggling to find words- which never happened.
"I'm lost." I finally muttered out. "I need to get to the school, but I can't find it. I'm new."
The boy smiled and stuck his hand out. "My name is Gilbert, and I would gladly show you the way to the school house. I'm heading there right now."
I shook his head and returned the smile. "I'm Y/N... and thank you."
...
We started off towards the school, and I had realized where I went wrong on my way there. I had made a left instead of a right, and ended up in the opposite direction.
We mostly walked in silence, with the occasional glance at one another. That was, until he broke the silence.
"You are going to really like going to school here. Everyone is oh so nice and friendly. The girls will definitely take a liking to you." He smiled.
I looked over at him with a straight face. "Are you joking?"
Gilbert laughed. "Possibly," he paused then let out a huge sigh. "We have an apathetic teacher who hates his job, all the boys are too rowdy for my liking, and the girls are very superficial and can be quite rude... if I'm being honest."
