This takes place in season 2 !
Y/N = your name
Gilbert x female reader•••
As I knocked on the Cuthberts door, the wind howled behind me. The snow had finally stopped falling down on the land, but that meant that all of it now resided on the ground. It had been a harrowing experience walking over to Anne's. I had nearly sunk into the white powder a handful of times.
Anne had invited a few others and I over for some Christmas festivities. Most likely some cookie eating and game playing. And we all bought presents for one person in the group, but nobody except you knew. We put all of our names in a hat an drew from it.
I had began to shiver a slight amount while waiting someone to let me in. But luckily for me, Anne opened the door with a bright and warm smile.
"Y/N!" She squealed, and pulled me inside.
The Cuthberts house was very warm compared to outside. I instantly felt my body stop shivering as I entered their living space.
"Y/N!" Diana, Cole, Anne, and Ruby shouted. The girls all jumped up and ran over to me, wrapping me in a warm embrace. Cole stood behind them and gave me a smile and a nod. When they finally all let go, I could catch my breath.
"Is this everyone then?" I asked cheerfully. "Can the festivities begin?" I made my way over to the beautifully decorated tree and set my gift down. I had picked Anne's name and had bought her a Jane Eyre book that she surprisingly had not read yet. It was a beautiful hard cover with elegant designs on it.
When I looked up at the group, they all were side-eyeing each other.
"What?" I asked quick. "Something the matter?"
Anne was the first one to speak. "We've invited Gilbert Blythe."
"And his friend and companion Sebastian." Ruby added.
My heart stopped. They had all known how I felt for the boy. My feelings for him were so strong that months before, Ruby had revoked her dibs on him... for me. She thought that Gilbert and I would make a lovely couple, so she began to fancy Charlie Sloan instead. But even after her approval, I could not tell Gilbert about my feelings.
I would try and try to bring it up... but then I would falter. I couldn't muster the courage to tell him how I really felt.
Instead of saying all of this allowed to my friends, I just nodded.
They all looked surprised.
"Are you sure, Y/N?" Cole said softly.
I nodded again. "Positive."
...
An hour went by of us just playing and singing and dancing in the living room. I tried to take my mind off the Gilbert situation, but it was always there... picking away at me.
After a game of king and queens, there was a knock on the door.
Anne sprinted up and went to welcome them in.
Gilbert and Sebastian appeared in the living space not a second later.
My eyes widened at his friend. I wasn't expecting... an islander. I had never seen one in person before. It was quite magical if I say so myself. His hair and skin were so unique and beautiful, but of course I couldn't say all those things to him.
All of us kids stood up when they came closer into the room. I looked over at Gilbert, but his attention was elsewhere.
"It's very nice to meet you." Sebastian said and stuck out his hand. He had a thick accent that sounded like nothing I've heard before.
I smiled at him and shook his hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Sebastian. I'm Y/N."
He raised his eyebrows for a second and turned his gaze to Gilbert who stood beside him now. Then he mouthed something inaudible to my ears.
I just smiled at the both of them, then took my proper seat on the couch.
Everyone was talking and socializing. But I just couldn't. I didn't feel up for games or talks right at the moment. So instead I just turned my gaze to the tree and all the beautiful candles that resided on it.
"Quite beautiful." A voice said from behind me.
I turned around to see a boy with curly dark brown hair sitting next to me on the seat.
"Yes. The tree is decorated most wonderfully." I said in awe, turning my attention back in front of me- to the tree.
"Oh- yeah the tree is really beautiful. That's what I meant." He said awkwardly, and when I looked over him, he was scratching the back of his neck.
"Something wrong?" I asked him.
"It's just- it's nothing. Everything is swell." He gave me a smile, but it was suspicious.
"Hey!" Anne shouted at us. She was pointing to something above Gilbert and I.
The two of us looked up.
Mistletoe. It was hung above us (very sloppily I may add). It had to have been done by a very tall person, but it looked like they rushed it.
I stood up and moved away from under it. "This is not funny you guys." I said to the group standing near the kitchen. "I can't believe you did that."
Cole and Anne had very sad looks on their faces and Diana and Ruby turned away from me. Soon enough tears were welling up in my eyes.
"It wasn't them Y/N... I did it." A hand touched my shoulder lightly, and Gilbert and a sorrowful expression on his face.
I wiped away the tears. "W-what?"
He sighed. "I put the mistletoe up."
"Why would you do that?"
Another sigh. "Isn't It obvious? I wanted to kiss you."
My eyes widened. "You wanted to kiss me?"
Gilbert nodded and took a step closer to me. "May I?"
I nodded. "Yes... you may."
Then Gilbert leaned in and pressed a short but sweet kiss on my lips. We had both closed our eyes, and when we opened them, a blush appeared on both of our faces.
"I've been wanted to do that for a while." He said with a giant smile.
I smiled too. "Me as well."
"Finally!" Sebastian shouted from the kitchen. "This boy has been talking about you non stop! It was damn time he made a move."
That caused everyone to erupt in laughter. Everyone except Gilbert and I.
