'Psst... April?' I was woken up by Jack quietly. 'It's time' he nodded trying not to wake the others up. I got ready and threw my backpack on my back. We snuck into the jungle all three of us and started looking for Charlie and Claire again.
'I'm sorry' I shrugged walking onwards.
'Why are you being sorry for?' Asked Kate trying to pick up a track.
'Well I lost him...' I shrugged. 'I should've tried more_'
'April...' She turned round and held my shoulder. 'This wasn't your fault... None of us new Ethan was an other' she explained. 'We're going to find them I promise' she promised me. We continued further and further into the jungle. Not a single trace of Charlie or Claire's footsteps.
We kept going and going until we were starting to give up on ever finding them. They were long gone. My feet were hurting from all the walking up and down hills. Kate looked at me to say something but soon turned away. 'They're gone aren't they?' I questioned. She turned and shrugged then looked back down at the ground at Least she was trying.
'Kate?' Jack questioned and gave her a little bandage. 'It's another one of Charlie's' he said. There was still hope. We travelled in that direction for a long time. 'Come on where are you Claire?' Jack asked quietly. He turned back to check on us travelling slowly behind. 'You guys okay?' He asked still not looking where he was going. He tripped up and fell down a huge bank, landed on his back and rolled towards the trees.
'Jack!' Kate shouted and ran faster to check if he was okay. I followed her and we slid down the bank and fast as we could. This wasn't the easiest of tasks to do. I was still half way to the ground when Kate ran to help Jack up. 'Jack are you okay?' She asked. I struggled because I wasn't the best when it came to walking down slippery hills.
'Guys wait up!' I shouted slowly my feet was losing its grip. I looked up to check if they were still there only noticing there was a figure hung up in the trees. As shocked as I was I let go of the vine I was holding and managed to repeat the same trip as Jack's.
(Flashback)
I came home from school and chucked my bag to the side. I huffed and sat down at the dining table. Something wasn't quite right? I looked around to see the kitchen spotless but no cooking was on. 'Mom?' I questioned trying to angle my chair so I could see into the living room. I shook my head and decided to get up and actually walk to the living room. 'Mom?' Again I questioned hoping she'd be in here.I was never left home alone. Dad wouldn't allow it he says I'm only a child... But I'm not... I'm 16. Maybe mom's just gone out grocery shopping? I nodded but then back tracking it. Wait Mom did the shopping on Monday... And she usually does it when I'm at school so she's back in time to 'take care' of me. Maybe she's gone out with her friends. I looked in the basement seeing nothing. Wait... Mom doesn't really have any friends... And she never goes out otherwise dad gets mad.
I had only returned a couple of weeks ago. When I was little she told me to run away from dad and being so little I did... I was put in foster care but I came back for her. She doesn't know that I'm back for her benefit as well as mine.
Soon enough I grabbed my bag 'might as well take this upstairs' I shrugged (talking to myself first sign of madness). I chucked it on my bed in my room. It was still too quiet in the house. I decided to walk into Mom and dad's room. I knocked at first just in case they were... Up to something. 'Mom?' I questioned. No answer.
I opened the door slowly. To see my mom on the bed curled up like she was sleeping. 'Jesus Christ mom you scared me for 10 minutes there' I was talking to myself again. I shook her gently and repeated 'mom?' Constantly. She wasn't awakening.
