Sarah rummaged through the medical cabinet looking for something she could clean her wounds with and re bandage her hand up, she was partly grateful that whoever had done this had taken the time to clean her up and bandage her up so she didn't lose a load of blood but they didn't do a very good job with it. There was nothing in the cabinet other than a few ibuprofen's that wasn't going to help anyway.

She went running downstairs, staying alert the whole time she didn't know the next they was going to creep up behind her and knock her out again, she went straight to the sink cupboard but couldn't find anything that would help her clean it but a bulb went off in her head and she remembered that Oliver had brought her a bottle of vodka for her birthday, it was her and Louise's favourite drink they would pour pineapple juice into it with some lemon and called it their pineka drink.

She grabbed the bottle and twisted the cap off with her teeth, she slammed the bottle onto the table and unravelled the bandages on her hand, there was strands of bandage stuck in the ends of her now stub fingers, you could see the bone nicely cut across, she pulled her t-shirt up and shoved the bottom of it into her mouth, she placed the new bandage under her hand ready to wrap around.

She didn't want to think about it to much because she would convince herself not to do it but she grabbed the vodka bottle and tipped it all over her hand, the pain was so intense she dropped the bottle and as it hit the floor it shattered and glass went everywhere. Sarah was sobbing into her t-shirt, she pulled the bandage around the tops of her fingers through tearful eyes.

Sarah wasn't crying because of the pain anymore, she felt emotionally drained of energy and could feel herself sinking until she snapped herself out of it, she realised that Oliver still wasn't home, his car wasn't out front and he should of been back by now. She stumbled and found her way back to the bottom of the stairs, she practically crawled up each step before finally reaching the top, she pulled her self back up and staggered into the bedroom and grabbed her phone.

She hadn't received any texts or phone calls off Oliver, has he not even tried to see if im ok? This wasn't like Oliver, he doesn't do disappearing acts, so many times Sarah had hoped he wouldn't come home but the one time she needs him here and he isn't there.

Sarah -

Oliver? Where are you? You said that you only had a few errands to run and you've been gone for ages now, you really need to come home the killer was here Oliver i have no fingers! He texted me asking to play a game and then knocked me out and took my fingers off!, I really really need you, please hurry home.

As she sends the message she notices the time...

15.17pm

"SHIT" Sarah shouted at herself, Melody is due to be picked up by 15.30pm.

Sarah didn't know how she was going to drive with one hand but she had to try, she ran downstairs and grabbed the car keys off the side, she wasn't looking forward to the questions off Melody.

....................................

Sarah sat in the car waiting to see Melody skipping out of class, she was clutching onto her bandaged hand, trying to drive with one hand was more difficult than Sarah realised.

KNOCK KNOCK

Sarah looked from the corner of her eye to her window.

"Ah you scared me then, get in then!" Sarah laughed when she noticed it was just Melody beaming at her from outside the window.

"Did you have a good day sweet?" Asked Sarah.

"Hmmmm, Mommy?" Melody didn't seem to interested In talking about her day at school.

"Yes" Sarah was staring out of the back window waiting for all the cars to pass so she could pull out.

"What happened to your hand?" Melody had a look of concern on her face, it almost looked like she was about to cry and that she already knew what had happened.

"Oh nothing, don't you worry yourself over that, I just hurt myself cooking" Said Sarah trying to sound as happy as she could.

"Mommy?" Asked Melody again

"Yes sweetie"

"Did the bad man in the mask do that to you?" Melody had tears rolling down her cheeks.

Sarah froze, What did she mean by that? How was she supposed to answer?

Sarah turned round and looked at Melody in the eyes, she could see a wave of pain taking over her daughters face, she looked scared and almost sorry.

"Melody darling, I need you to talk to mommy ok? Do you hear me?"

Melody nodded yes

"What do you mean the man in the mask?"

Melody looked down at her fingers, she was fiddling with the tag on her school book bag. She didn't want to look up at Sarah, or talk to her.

"MELODY! THIS IS SERIOUS TELL ME WHAT YOU MEANT" Sarah was getting frustrated with her daughter not answering.

"Come on Melody, your not in trouble I promise but I need to know what you meant by that, its really really important" Sarah calmed her voice and put her left hand out to grab hold of Melody's hand.

Melody looked up at Sarah and wailed like a baby.

"IM SO SORRY MOMMY IM SO SO SORRY" Melody was crying so hard that she couldn't help but stutter her words.

"It is ok, you have nothing to say sorry for, your not in trouble just calm down and breathe and talk to me, you can trust me right?"

Melody looked up and wiped her tears away with her one hand and took a deep breathe.

"The man with the mask, he was in your bedroom this morning, I thought it was Daddy and I woke up from a bad dream, he looked scary mommy but he was nice to me, he liked me. He took me back to bed and tucked me in, he told me to go back to sleep because if I woke you then you would be angry with me, but then he made a joke about you having no fingers and I told him it would be funny, its all my fault."

Sarah went numb from head to foot, she was speechless, she tried to speak but the words wouldn't leave her lips. She needed to get her act together.

"Melody, it isn't your fault ok?" Sarah turned around and quickly pulled out on the road, driving over the limit.

"Mommy im scared, is he going to hurt me?" Sarah could hear the fear in Melody's voice

"No, Mommy won't let anyone hurt you ok? You have to trust me ok! you have nothing to be scared of, we are not going back home!" Sarah was driving faster down the road, she didnt know what she was going to do but what she did know was she couldn't let this man with no face find them.
