Sarah dunked a piece of cotton wool into a bowl of Luke warm water before dabbing it gently onto Oliver's eye. He winced from the pain. His face was swollen, both eyes were black and his nose was sitting on the other side of his face. He looked unrecognisable, Sarah couldn't look him in the eyes, it hurt her heart too much to look at him in this state and not be able to help him.
Sarah could see that Oliver didn't want to move his mouth, she lifted his head and pulled his bottom lip open, just enough to be able to look. His mouth was filling up with blood and she could just about see the end of his tongue, it was cut to the side and the tip was completely gone. They hadn't been nice about it at all. She needed to find this missing piece to help him.
"He sent me two Locations, he told me there was a missing piece and turns out that It might just be the rest of your... erm.. tongue" Sarah spoke sheepishly, she was twiddling her feet from side to side while looking at the ground, she hated admitting that Oliver had lost a part of his body that was so important to have for day to day life.
She could feel Oliver's eyes on her, She looked up to see him crying and shaking his head in a no motion.
"What is it?" Sarah asked
He kept moving his eyes back and forth as if he was looking for something, Sarah followed his eyes and saw a piece of paper and a pen.
"You want to write it down?" Sarah reached over and grabbed them, She handed them to Oliver and watched as he started scribbling down on the paper.
Oliver looked up and handed Sarah the piece of paper.
"Don't bother! You try and put this mess back together and it will become infected and that's what he wants, it could kill me. YOU COULD KILL ME!!!!! Don't listen to what he says! This is only going to get worse, he has Melody! We need to go to the police".
Sarah stood staring at the paper, she had never thought about the infection that could be caused by her trying to fix Oliver's torn out tongue. She knew that Oliver was right, but she didn't see how going to the police could make anything better for them, especially because he has Melody.
"I can't go to the police you know that" Sarah had a look of stern on her face while she caught Olivers eye.
"You know as well as I do that me going to the police wouldn't make this better for us, we can't risk anything while he has Melody, we need to find her ourselves and end this once and for all"
Oliver grabbed the paper back off Sarah and started writing, he was writing so fast that it looked like he was trying to come across angry without actually being able to speak and that amused Sarah.
He handed the paper back to Sarah and crossed his arms viciously.
"How are we supposed to find out who is doing this? We haven't done anything wrong. He killed Louise and Stephen, what did they do wrong? how do we know that this isn't just some sick person that decided to target us one day?"
Sarah's heart was racing, she had come to a conclusion about who could be doing this.
"Right, when you left I got some texts off him and he said he wanted revenge, that means that he knows who we are and we obviously did something that either angered him or upset him"
Oliver Shrugged his shoulders.
"I don't think its anything you have done, you have just got caught up in the middle of this. Like he said to me earlier you were at the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't even think he would hurt Melody, he just wants to get to me"
Sarah looked to the ground, there was something that she had been meaning to tell him for a long time but could never find the strength to do so.
She looked up at Oliver, he was sitting there waiting for what she had to say next, he could see that she knew something he didn't.
"It's easier if I show you, stay there" Sarah walked past Oliver and into the hallway, she opened the side table and pulled out an envelope before walking back into the kitchen and passing it to Oliver.
"Now once you've read that promise to stay calm and hear me out ok?" Sarah wiped a tear from her cheek. Oliver nodded to let Sarah know he understood what she had said.
He ruffled open the envelope and pulled the shaggy, stained piece of paper out.
He sat and stared, he didn't move a muscle.
Sarah saw a tear drop down from Oliver's cheek.
He looked up and whimpered at her.
The piece of paper she had been hiding, told the truth about Melody, it said...
OLIVER WHITEHOUSE HAS 0% CHANCE OF BEING THE BIRTH FATHER OF MELODY LYN WHITEHOUSE.
