Austin stands only five feet away, fear engraved in his face. His eyes are hollow and lost, his stance is sagged and pleading me. Frail, something I wouldn’t think I could ever see him as. He staggers closer to me, “You promised me,” his voice shudders, tears falling freely down his thin face.

I shake my head, he know’s why I’m doing this, the note is in his hand. I face the water again and take another deep breath.

His warm hand engulf my cold one in it, making me face him. His eyes stay on mine as he speaks, “Anna, I don’t want you to go. I don’t want you to leave. You don’t make my life worse, all you have done, is make it better. I don’t know what would make you think I want you to leave me, but whatever it was, that is the only thing that should die tonight. That thought. I don’t want you to leave me, I don’t know what I would do if you did. I want you to stay,” he pulls me so I’m sitting on the edge facing him. “I need you to stay. Anna, you are so beautiful, that the world can’t make anything to match you. You are one of the strongest people I know, you have been through so much and you keep going. You don’t let it drag you down, not like this. You are so wise, no matter how stupid you think you are, you are so in depth that you can get lost wondering about the smallest, yet most intriguing thing. You can find beauty in everything, even when others can’t. Except yourself, you can’t find it in yourself. Which is what has me baffled, the most beautiful person can see the beauty in everything except herself. Anna, I want to be able to wake up each morning with you, I want to be able to joke around with you and laugh, I want to be able to take care of you and tell you each and every moment that you are beautiful. That you are a one in a trillion person, and that no one can ever replace you. I want you to know that without you, I am nothing. You are not alone, you’re with me.” He breathes out and places his hands on the side of my face, “I will never leave you as long as I live. I love you Anna,” he says and brings his lips to mine.

That was the night Austin Carlile saved me, and helped me, save myself.
