Last Summer

I plan on holding on to my youth for as long as possible.

I walk into the school and I see a girl waving at me, she is standing at the lockers, it's Charlotte. Charlotte Peters is my best friend, we follow history together so I know her for a little while. Charlotte has short brown hair and is really a fashion icon, she always wants to style me. 

"It's the first day of school after the winter break, you have to look good Avery!" She said  1 day before the break.

"OMG Avery, I didn't think you'd really wear it," says Charlotte enthusiastically, 

Charlotte is a lively soul, always happy to always tell you something, sometimes it can be tiring, but I'm glad we're friends.

As we walk down to class, I see a girl walking into our history class.

"Do we have a new one at school?" Charlotte shouts, as if she had read my mind because I just wanted to say it.

Charlotte and I walk into the classroom, the girl looks directly at me, and I feel her eyes in my back as soon as I turn around.

Together with Charlotte I always sit in the back of the class, David is sitting next to us. 

David is a very good friend of ours, I know he has a crush on Charlotte, but he doesn't want to admit it, I don't understand that everyone sees that he is head over heels for her except Charlotte. 

David is a handsome and smart boy, with his dark blond hair and brown eyes, he always looks good, he almost always wears blouses, very neat.

"Have you seen it yet?" Whisper David

"Yes, a new one" and Charlotte nods at her.

'Books ready! Sorry I'm late we're going to start right away! page 43. ' 

Simone our history teacher rushes in and immediately picks up the chalk from the blackboard and starts to write all kinds of data like a madman

"Damn it, I can see it coming a whole lot of tests!" Charlotte whispers angrily while she is glossing her lips.

'Charlotte! this is not a fashion show put that lip gloss away or you can go! ' Simone points to her student.

Simone looks around and sees a new face.

'Ah yes almost forgot, everyone this is the new student! introduce yourself " Simone says while she looks at the new girl,

The new girl stands up, she looks pale, her eyes look like she has slept badly, long black hair and she wears clothes that I know Charlotte is about to write a whole review about. Not really a fashion icon ..The new girl looks around the classroom, she looks at me, her eyes go right through my soul, I get a shiver over my back, something in me finds this exciting... there is something about her that I want to find out, she is a girl with secrets, I just know it!

"Clyfford, Adeline Clyfford." and she sits back down. she looks behind her back. My way.

An hour passes and the lesson is over, it's time for a lunchbreak,

 "What the fuck was that weird chick" Charlotte says laughing, Charlotte stumbles over her own feet and drops her bag.

 "Shit, all my books," she bends over to pick it up at,David with his kind heart jumps at the ground to help Charlotte pick up her books while doing so they bump their heads. 

 Adeline stands in front of them, she is laughing at Charlotte and David. I look at Adeline. Charlotte looks up. 'What the fuck are you doing?  you made me stumble. "

Charlotte gets up and stands eye to eye with Adeline. 

"No, you're just clumsy" Adeline laughs quirkyly as she throws the books out of David's hands. She walks away. 

I look around and she is gone .. she was just behind us? how did she leave that fast,

'And just like that she's gone?' I say suprisly

"What does it matter, the faster away the better, weird girl" says David bitterly

School is over, it was a strange day .. I walk outside.

"Are you coming?" Says Charlotte?I look at Charlotte, I look behind my back.. and suddenly I see Adeline standing in the doorway of the school, I already felt someone watching me.. , she nods her head towards the door .. very strange but I am curious.

"Yeah, wait a minute, I'm ... uh ... I forgot something, I'll be right back"

"Alright,but hurry up," says Charlotte 

I walk inside and I am being pulled into the toilet by my arm.

"What the fuck?" I say startled It's Adeline.

"Hey" I say .. "What is it?"

"I think you have noticed that I'm staring at you all day ... that is not without reason."

I find it strange but I am becoming more and more curious.

"Yes .." I say.  

"I recognize you from somewhere ... I think the day a loved one of yours had committed suicide I saw you, I was there too' 

My thoughts run wild .. did she know Elijah? Has she had anything to do with it? confusion haunts my mind.

"Yeah .. my brother .. Elijah, he uhm."  

Tears appear in my eyes.

'No you don't have to say anything. I knew you were Elijah's family, that's why I'd recognized you from! ... "she says and I hear some sort of sadness but also relief in her voice.

"How did you know Elijah ..." I ask and just before Adeline wants to answer, Charlotte storms inside. 

'Avery? what are you doing? ' Charlotte looks at Adeline dirty as she pulls me out by my arm.

'What are you doing? don't talk to her anymore okay? what did she say? and what did you do there, I thought you had to pick something up. "

I'm not focusing on what Charlotte is saying .. I still think about what Adeline said ...How did she know Elijah?

"Hello earth to Avery?" Charlotte waves in my face

"Huh?" oh no she only asked .. uh she said that I looked nice I happened to meet her when I had to go to the toilet .. but screw that let's go to your place, I have to go home on time again"

Charlotte looks at me with a strange look..

'Okay whatever.. let's get going' We walk towards Charlotte's car .. 

I am lost in my thoughts ..
