My name? Kassandra Sage Sanderson. I was born in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, after my mother and father lost their other daughter.. my older sister. Now I was the oldest.

I had two younger sisters and a little brother.

I am six years old and I am just about to go into grade two. My other sisters, Elle Juniper and Dakota Rose are twins. They are both four years old and I think they're in pre-school. Our little brother is two. His name is Joshua Bay and he has part time daycare. Mommy is pregnant again and the baby is going to be here in four months.

There was two days until I started school and I'm excited. I was so excited that I bought everyone candy with my allowance money! My uncle also told me that if I smiled any bigger, I'd pop something in my neck.

I missed Papa and Mimi and Grampy and Grammy.. Papa and Mimi were barely around anymore, same with Grampy and Grammy on daddy's sides. Mommy also told me that our uncle Oliver was with big sister Ember. Uncle Oliver was named after Papa's friend, Barry who passed away in the apocalypse. But somehow they brought him back!

I don't remember much of anything before two years ago. I just remember that I've had a normal life and mommy says to be thankful, so I am. I think. I don't know what thankful means.

Right now, I was curled up under my blankets waiting for daddy to come wake me up for school. Something happened with daddy's band, so now he was being a DJ and selling songs to make money to support us until daddy's band was fixed.

I grab my unicorn plushie and hold it close to my chest, waiting for daddy to come in. While I do that, I close my eyes and pretend to be asleep, hearing the door open a few seconds later and the light switch flick.

"Hey, baby girl..." I heard daddy speak softly, pulling the blanket off my head. "It's time to wake up for school." He says softly and kisses my head, rubbing my back until I 'wake up'.

I normally did this so I had more time
with him, 'cause he worked late.

"Morning, Little Princess." He smiles as I opened my eyes and cuddle into him.

"Morning, dada." I wipe my eyes and look up at him, poking his nose like I always did.

"We can cuddle for two minutes then you have to get up, okay?" Daddy would always say this, but we'd cuddle longer than two minutes everyday before school.

"Okay." I just smile and watch him chuckle and struggle to fit in my bed. Once he does comfortably, he slips one of his arms and lets me rest my head on his chest.

"How has school been?" He asks in a softer voice, like he always does. "Are there any bullies I need to tickle for you?"

I giggle. "No, daddy. School's fine." I say. "I wish I could be with you for a whole day."

"Me too, maybe someday you can." He smiles and brushes out my hair with his fingers. "Have you or your siblings been giving mommy trouble after school?"

"The baby has. The one she ate. She says the baby hurts her. Why isn't she coming out yet?"

"You sound like your uncle Dalton when he was little." Daddy whispers and kisses my head.
