As I walked through our old house, the floors creaked under each footstep.

I was walking to the kitchen downstairs, to find something to eat.

When I finally reached the bottom step, I walked into the kitchen to find my daddy sitting at the table, reading his old newspaper.

"Daddy? Why are you up so early?" I asked him. He looked up from the paper, peering at me from the top of his glasses that rested firmly on the bridge of his nose.

"Oh Dani! I could ask you the same?" He replied giving me a warm smile. I returned it and trotted over to him, embracing him in a hug.

I grabbed a bowl and some cereal, pouring milk in and eating.

I stared at him for moment, as he drank some coffee and rustled the old newspaper paper before reading some more.

After I ate, I planned to have a nice hot shower and maybe read a book. Then relax all day.

"Daddy, I'm going to take a shower" I told him before kissing his cheek, and going up the stairs to my room.

Pulling my drawer open, I grabbed a pair of nice black skinny jeans and a white t-shirt. Then grabbing my hair brush, and to the bathroom I went.

As I showered, I sang some of my favorite songs, and just let the hot water soak my skin, relaxing me.

As I was getting out I wrapped a towel around my body, then put my hair in one, and headed to the mirror.

I wiped the glass with my hand, and picked up my toothbrush, brushing my teeth. After I that I quickly ran a brush through my hair.

Before exiting the bathroom, I fixed the towels on the towel rack again, and wiped the water off the floor, and counter.

I walked through the door that led straight to my bedroom, and threw my dirty pajamas into the laundry basket. As I walked over to my shelf, I put my slippers on, then picked out a good book.

Undecided about which book I wanted to read, I grabbed three and plopped down in my bed.

The first one I chose was called 'A Great and Terrible Beauty', I love this one.

Just as I picked up the book, my sister Maggie called me.

"Dani!, could you come down here please?" She asked, I didn't mind going down there but it was the tone that worried me.

She has this tone, that if you so much as leave a crumb on the floor, your dead. I slumped off my bed, and started down the stairs.

When I got down there, she was pointing at the table, where I left my bowl and spoon. I smiled meekly at her before grabbing it and washing them in the sink.

"Dani, how many times have I told you not to leave your dirty dishes out?" Maggie says looking me in the eye, "Sorry" I reply hugging her. She hugs me back and kisses my forehead.

I give her a smile before bouncing up the stairs, then climbing on my bed, and again picking up my book.

After about an hour, I have read about four chapters. I turned the page, and read about two sentences before one of my other sisters, Beth, called out.

"Dad! Maggie!" She yelled from the front lawn. I rushed down the stairs and out the front door, standing beside her and watching where she was pointing.

She was staring ahead at the long grassy field ahead, when a man came out and was carrying a little boy.

The man emerged to us just as my daddy stepped out. "Hey!" He said "which one of you is Hershel?" He shouted.

My daddy nodded and said "I am" before stepping closer and examining the boy.

"Was he bitten or scratched?" He asked in confusion. The man in the sheriff suit shook his head vigorously "no he was shot! Shot by your guy!" He replied.

He had tears welling up in his eyes, as he looked down at the boy. "Can you help? The man told us to find you!"

Just as he said that I looked around and noticed Otis was missing. I tugged on Maggie's sleeve "where's Otis?" I asked worried. She looked down at me and gave side hug "he went out hunting he's fine" she said smiling, but then looking back at the sheriff.

"Well get him inside" my daddy said ushering them quickly in the door.

We all followed, as the sheriff carried his son into the living room and on the couch.

Daddy took the boy's shirt off, and examined the wound. He then took the shirt and started dabbing the blood away.

He raised his eyes to Maggie. "Maggie get my emergency kit and a rag, Dani sweety go and get the blood tester."

I nodded my head and got straight to work. I ran to the medical room quickly and grabbed the blood tester.

I ran back quickly and my daddy told me to put the needle in. He fidgeted a little, but then remained still.

"Please tell me you can save him!" The man said anxiously, my daddy looked at me "How's his blood level?" He asked.

I looked down at it and it read low blood. I looked back up worried "he needs more".

Daddy looked from me to the sheriff "do you have the same blood type?" He asked. He nodded fast "yes go ahead take as much as he needs".

Wow. He would do anything to save this boy. I mean I would too, he's just a boy.

My daddy got him to sit down while Maggie took the blood from his arm. As soon as Maggie was done, the man got up and started for the door. No one noticed him til he fell.

"What are you doing?" My daddy asked. He got up and turned for the chair again "my wife, she needs to be here". My daddy nodded at Maggie and she got the message.

"No sir you need to sit down, you've lost to much blood. Now where is she I'll get her." Maggie asked him. He pointed his finger to the front yard "she's about a mile that way, at the highway" he said.

Maggie smiled at him. "Don't worry she I'll get her, you need to just sit here I'll be back soon" and with that Maggie slipped her boots on and was out the door.
