We strolled through the forest as Elise looked for a shower for me. Or more exactly, I stomped through the forest while Theo and Elise walked with silent feet.
I bumped into Theo and looked up. He jerked his head in Elise's direction.
She held a hand up, cutting Theo off, which in turn cut me off.
"What's wrong?" I rub the place that cushioned the rest of me from Theo.
"Shh." Elise glares at me as she flicks her tongue out.
What? Why are you sticking your tongue out? You aren't a snake.
She spins around, and stares at me, her dark eyes narrows.
"Too much magic is in the air, it's almost like Etherworld. We're too easy to spot."
"We could try masking the scent. That sometimes works with animals."
"Magic is different, it's felt more than smelt. Although, you do have a point." Elise's brow furrows as she squints her eyes shut.
"What if you sucked the magic from me?"
"Unacceptable! Elise, we can't do that! She could be seriously injured if we did - which we won't, right?"
"She's onto something, Theo. She sucks all of the magic from the air, but if we took it, then we could get rid of it - because we burn magic so quickly. The only problem is that she'd just stuck it back up, resulting in a magical unbalance in the atmosphere."
"Then do it as much as you need to." I offer both of them my arms, my wrists showing.
"You can't possibly be listening to her! She could die! We'd have to drain most of the magic from her, and she can't survive without magic!"
"Not if we paralyze her just enough that her body shuts down. Think about it, Theo, all that juicy magic for us, plus we receive the added bonus of no whining from her. And you can be the one to carry her. What do you say?"
Theo glanced from my face to my wrist.
"Go on, I'll be fine."
Even if I really don't want to be helpless like before, I'll do it, if it's the only way to save us.
"Are you sure, we can fight to protect you."
"I'm sure. Now just get it over with."
Theo looked at Elise as she grabbed one of my arms and sank her teeth into my ulnar artery.
My head spun as the blood left my system. I mentally shake my head to clear it.
"Go ahead, it doesn't hurt at all." I lie through gritted teeth.
Elise slides her teeth out of my skin, presses her lips against my wound, nips it, and looks up at Theo with shining eyes.
The bleeding from my vein had stopped. There wasn't even a trace of a puncture, only a shiny pink scar.
"Her magic is amazing! I can feel it power everything in me, surely this is the power our brother always spoke of! The blood of a forbidden one." She spoke of my blood as if it were a goddess or some sort of great thing that held much respect.
You're crazy if that's so. What so special about my blood? I'd bet it tastes just like anyone else's blood.
"Is it?" Theo looked at my wrist with unhidden hunger. "I guess one little taste wouldn't hurt."
"Didn't you already taste my blood?" I ask.
Theo looks at me for a second before understanding dawns in his eyes. "No, I only slid in enough to eject the venom into you."
