Inner monsters

The monster gasps as its eyes fly open, the blessed air filling its lungs, despite the still swirling wall of wind sucking the air from the middle. Blood red eyes search for the cause of its Master's near death. Everything had taken on an eerie red glow to it and it heaved its bulk up to stand at my monstrous height.
Goat horns curved back, hugging the creature's narrow head, fiery eyes darting back and forth. A fanged, tusked snout snuffled as it smelled for the killer's blood. Triangular ears swiveled back and forth, straining to pick up any sound. Thick, muscled arms ended in almost-too-large, clenched taloned hands. Muscled legs bunched up as the monster tensed, a scaly tail whipped back and forth, the monster was eager to hunt.
The monster's tail swished around as it stalked out of the cyclone. The killer gaped at its form. It wasn't the creature she had just trapped in her magic.
It smiled, a gross, twisted image, it enjoyed seeing her fear, and it couldn't wait until it could feel her skull crush beneath its fist and drink the delicate blood of a fairy. A royal one at that.
She'll be delicious.
"What the-" She didn't have time to finish her sentence before the monster pounced on her and pinned her to the ground.
"Master may be afraid to kill but I'm not." It hisses as its large taloned fingers dig into her slender arms, making her cry out in pain. "Nobody tries to kill Master."
"Y-your master?"
"Master is my master. My creator. Without her I'd be nothing but dust in the wind. Are you ready to die, fairy?"
"N-no! I'm not!" she took in a deep breath and blew in the monster's face. A torrent of wind rushed out of her mouth, blew it off her and slammed it against the fir. She turned, summoning her wings, and jumping off the ground, flapping furiously as she tried to get away. She soared up into the air and it growled.
Master's killer shan't get away.
The monster scurried up the fir, jumped off the top, and caught the killer's ankle.
They were losing altitude at an amazing speed, her puny wings were no match for its weight.
It jerked her towards it and tossed her onto the ground like a rag doll. She fell like a broken toy.
The ground shook as the monster landed next to her, a deep crater where its hooves were.
"Master's killer's aren't to be let go lightly, killer." It picks her up by her arm and she dangles limply.
It jerks on her arm, pulling it off and flung it to the side. Blood squirted in a fountain of crimson liquid. The killer screamed in agony, a delightful noise the monster hadn't heard since before it was taken from its Master.
For a moment, the monster was distracted, and its vision turned redder. It lifted the fairy to its mouth and guzzled the waterfall of blood. Its saliva slowed the flow of blood until it was a mere trickle.
It's a shame Master's spit heals. I dearly wish Master hadn't received that vampiric trait.
"Get off me you beast! Let go of me!" the killer had come to. She struggled and kicked the monster in the face. It growled, tightening its grip.
"You shall die! No one kills Master!" The monster spits on her face and grabs her tiny chest with its other hand. "Air deprivation. Seems suitable since that's how you tried to kill Master."
It squeezes her. Her breath comes out in gasps, and tears run down her face.
"Seems fit a princess should die from such a terrible monster." she struggles to speak.
The monster tightens its grip, crushing her frail body in its fist.
Stop.
"But Fern! She tried to kill Master! I can not allow for this creature to remain alive."
Regina, Master would be very displeased when she recovers if you had killed her enemy. Surely Master would wish to finish the deed herself.
The moster's hand shook with the effort it took to disobey its superior.
"Master would be proud of me."
Master will want to finish the deed herself, now put the fairy down!
The monster whimpered and dropped the killer, before collapsing itself, its energy gone.
She'll get away.
No, she won't. She's too weak from blood loss and air deprivation. It'll take a while for her magic to kick in and start healing her.
I will obey.
The monster closes its eyes, not knowing the next time it'll be free to serve its Master.

I whimper as I stand up, pain arching through my body. My limbs felt as heavy as stone and I was sore all over.
Why do I feel like I just fought a battle?
I dug my fingers into the wet grass and lay my head down, breathing in the sent of newly clipped grass, freshly turned dirt, and - blood?
My head whips up and I survey my surroundings.
Clumps of grass turned upside-down laid everywhere, blood stained the grass and dirt. A large crater highlighted the ground, deep furrows crisscross ingredients to create an immense pattern.
"What happened here? Last thing I remember is - gnat! Where did she go? Did I really die or something? I'd expect heaven to have less blood and Hell to have more, so where am I?" I stand up to get a better view of this new place.
I walk in a drunken line, my head dizzy for some reason.
I stumble over something, my reflexes kicking in just enough to keep me from falling on my face. My hands and knees sting from the impact, I twist my head to look at the object I tripped over.
A stick-like object had been tossed on to the ground, it was bent in the middle with four slender twigs splayed in every direction, a stump glittered with a red stone set in a golden band. The worst part was that the item was swathed in pink silk.
My eyes widen as I realize what it was, my stomach heaving up the little I had had earlier that day.
As soon as I'm done I scurry as far as possible from the gruesome sight.
Please tell me this is all some little imp playing a prank on me. That couldn't be Isabella's arm! Could it?
My eyes close, trying to calm my racing thoughts, but the image couldn't get out of my mind.
My breathing quickened.
There's no possible way that could happen!
The air became thick and dark, the thick roiling black smoke from when that fire-caped lady had visited me.
Look who's coming back for more.
The lady stepped out from behind a tree, her fire cloak the only source of light.
"What happened? Are you going to tell me now?"
"There are some things I must explain, but you aren't ready for the whole story." the lady sighed.
"Then explain to me what you will, but I still need to know."
"You know you are only part amority, right? Your father was a good demon named Vritra and your mother's Tamarack of the western winds - a famous bounty hunter known for her use of magic. The union between an amority a demon is forbidden, for it is said that the child of such an union would destroy the world. However, your mother and father fell in love and such a union did exist. When you were bo-"
"What's an amority? I mean, what is so special about an amority? That gnat could tell right away that I was one."
"An amority is more-or-less the mutt of the fey. All creatures' blood is running through your veins. And before you ask why you aren't a vampire then, it's because you are a defected vampire."
How did she know what I was about to say?
"Every so often a vampire is born without the gene deficiency and they are called 'amorities'," she continued. " The reason the fairy could tell you were an amority is because of your kind's defining feature - your eyes."
"My eyes?" My hands fly up to my face, feeling if there was something wrong with them.
"Haven't you looked in a mirror since your powers were unleashed?"
"What do you mean?"
"Your eyes. The moment you unlocked your demonic side, your eyes changed to match your magic - the only kind to do so. Your features have changed, Jace." she waved her hand and a mirror surrounded in flickering flames appeared.
I snatched it from the air, knowing the flames wouldn't burn me.
My hair had become more vibrant - more like little me's hair - pale orange eyes stare back. I had become paler, and as I twisted my head, I could see my ears had become pointed and ragged.
"This isn't me. This can't be me."
"It is and it has always been you. Your body took on a human form only to conceal the truth. All that you remember has been a list, Jace. You've been living a lie." her head had tuned away, but jerked towards me as if she expected something good to happen.
"That's exactly what you should tell me. So what now? You expect me to run away just because you tell me I've been living a lie? I'll be the judge in that. You can't tell me what is truth and lies, only I can, so tell me whats next. I'm finally getting something close to a truth instead of empty threads, I'd be stupid to not hear you out."
"Your father was concerned for your mother and wanted to kill you, but Tamara wouldn't allow it. She banished him from her sight and raised you in secret. When you were four, you're mother was killed by the USNC and you ran away. It was many years before your demonic side appeared. There are ways to summon it, but for now, anger is your trigger. You must stay away from anger."
"But what happened here? Why does it look like there was a battle fought here?"
The lady sighed. "As patient as ever, I see. When your life is in danger, such as when you were assaulted by those men and when Isabella tried to kill you, your inner demon takes over. An animal I stick backup for when you can no longer battle. We call her Regina. She does everything she can to protect you, including killing. Her resistance to magic make her a dangerous foe. I barely stopped her from killing Isabella."
"Who are you?"
"I am your past, your present, and your future. My name is Fern, Master."
"Master? I think not." I scoff.
"But it is true. There are several parts of you you don't understand, even before you came to the mortal world. It is part of being a demon. Your demon - Regina, myself, and yourself. Those are the three main functions of your consciousness. A power-machine - Regina, a moral compass and backup memory - myself, then yourself - the main conscious and master of us all."
"You mean I'm a robot controlled by little people?"
Fern laughs, a whisper of sadness in it. "No, you are your own individual person. You only have sides of you that you subconsciously control. I'm your subconscious trying to communicate with you, but if I tell you too much you could go into shock."
"Try me. I've surprised everyone else."
Fern shakes her head. "You can not trick yourself. Your worth is much more than the risk." she turns and vanishes, the smoke dispersing into the air.
That was fast. So what now? Was she telling the truth? I think she was, I mean, I had a vision about Vritra and Tamara and what went on, she read my mind, which somewhat supports what she said about being my subconscious.
So that is Isabella's arm - disgusting as it is. I'm glad Fern stopped Regina from killing her. I'd hate to have another death because of me. But it's scary to think I have all this power within me. If I have this much power then I'm pretty much unstoppable. I wonder if modern war weapons would have any effect on me.
I close my eyes, exhaustion seeping in.
When I open them, Theo's hazel eyes stare back.
I reach out and slap him. Shock registers on his face as tears welling up in his eyes.
"What was that for?"
I close my eyes and lean back against a tree. "I had the urge to slap someone. Besides, you were staring at me, not to mention you were too close."
"That doesn't give you the right to slap someone!"
"Whatcha gonna do about it?" I peak at him through a slitted eye.
"What I'm going to do about it? I'll show you what I'm going to do about it!" he bared his fangs, his eyes starting to glow red.
"Theo!" Elise's sharp cry breaks through his haze of anger. "Now isn't the time. Can't you see she just wants to fight?"
"So what happened? How long was I out?" I turn to Elise.
"All day. We are preparing for camp, so make yourself useful."
I fold my hands over my head. "Why? I'm the most powerful creature ever. So why should I do what you say?"
"Because, I know your weakness, little miss. And I'm not afraid to use it." Elise smiles.
"I have no weaknesses."
"You do. Two little brats you care for very much. Wouldn't want any harm to come to them, would you?"
I jolt upwards, shocked.
"What are you going to do to Peggy and Andrew?"
"Nothing, yet. So start helping. Don't let your head get so big." Elise smirks as she tosses the tents to me.
