Everything was still, everything was silent. Everything happened in a blur, too fast for Harith to even comprehend what just happened. He could hear Lesley's heart wrenching screams, and yet it was also drowned out by the sharp ringing in his ears.
Did Harley just—? He couldn't even think of it, for the thought alone could make him tear up and sob. He could save his tears for later, he thought. Later, when no one is watching, even if it makes people think of him as cold or uncaring. Of course he cared. It was his lover that just—
He didn't want to make any eye contact with the dead body that lay before them all. It would probably crush him, he knew it would no doubt. Why? What had Harley seen in him that was worth dying for? He couldn't think of any possible reason.
He froze when Lesley's once warm brown eyes, now cold and unfeeling, turned to face him. "This is all your fault. Had he not taken that for you, he would still be here."
He ducked his head. It was his fault. He was the reason Harley is not here with them. Why? Why did he still let the mage fight? This was his battle, yet he dragged someone innocent, someone who shouldn't even be fighting in this battle with him.
And not only that, but Harley just saved him. He should've been the one doing that. Lesley was right. All of this was his fault.
And it was with these thoughts plaguing him that he walked home, alone, despairing.
