Harith was nervous. He didn't want to see how Harley would react. Would he be mad? Would he be disappointed? Would he—
"Harith?" He heard a small, weak voice say from behind him.
He turned around to face Harley, resurrected, looking at him with dull, green eyes. Harith ducked his head, those eyes seem to have lost all the cheeriness and determination they've once had. Instead, they were replaced with a feeling of sadness and longing. What was the mage longing for?
"Harley?" Harith said, not intending for it to be a question. The small mage said nothing as he sat on the ground, his legs tucked under his torso. "Why?" He asked, meekly.
Harith sat next to him. His hand moved to hold Harley's gloved one. They felt cold, as if they have been drained of all the life.
Some of the tension eased when Harley grasped his. He breathed and sighed, "I-I couldn't live without you."
"Harith," Harley started "I—"
He paused. Harith let him collect his thoughts.
The mage sighed. "How long was I dead?" He asked, changing the subject.
"A couple of days." Harith replied.
A long silence, and then "I didn't feel anything when I died, you know?"
He let go of Harith's hand. "For a moment, everything felt numb and then it went dark. It's almost as if you were sleeping, but you're aware of it. And what makes it worse is when you realise that you won't ever wake up. Except, I did."
Harith kept silent, waiting for Harley to say more but when the mage said nothing, he decided to continue the conversation. "Are—Are you mad?" He asked, his ears drooping slightly.
"I'm not, but I'm not exactly happy either." It wasn't what Harith wanted, but it was good enough.
"I'm sorry." He said sincerely.
"Don't be, it makes it worse."
Harith didn't know what the mage meant by that, but he decided not to question him.
The two sat in silence as they watched the sky dim.
During this, Harith couldn't help but hope that everything would turn back to normal.
If there was a some super natural being out there, watching all this, then he prayed to that God that everything would go back to normal.
