It never did.
Harith could only watch in agony as Harley would do things against his will and it pained him when he remembered that he was the reason for Harley's suffering. How could he have been so selfish?
And yet, he couldn't back out. He made a deal. Yet, was his part of the deal really accomplished? For despite Vexana having resurrected Harley, she never let Harith speak to the petite mage.
Vexana obviously couldn't care less, to her, Harley was just a doll, a puppet to her bidding. And she wasn't lying.
At the current moment, the two were seated across from each other, a burning fire separating them. Harith's ears twitched every now and then with all the little sounds the forest produces at night. The two mages were currently waiting for Harley to return with fire wood to keep their small blaze burning brightly.
Harith heard a faint crunch and he turned his head to the source of the noise. In the distance, he could make out the faint silhouette of Harley currently clutching a handful of firewood.
The mage returned and tended to the flame, not a glance at Harith.
"Hey, Harley." The mage looked up at him. "Why have you been so silent recently?" He asked, carefully.
Harley ducked his head, his golden curls bouncing at the gesture. "Harley..?" Harith called out again, cupping the mage's face so that their eyes locked on the other's.
A faint tear slid from Harley cheek, yet not a sound escaped his throat. Harith gently wiped it away with his thumb, yet Harley's crying wasn't his main focus at the moment.
He was watching Vexana, who was currently giggling softly to herself. "What are you laughing at?"
She continued laughing, much more hysterically this time. He narrowed his eyes. "You're the reason he isn't speaking, aren't you?"
"Of course," She admitted. "He's quite talkative and it just annoyed me. Besides, I think a silent Harley seems much better, doesn't it?"
"You are sick—Thinking that all this is a game! Harley isn't yours." He replied, anger seething.
"Ah, but he is." She said innocently.
Harith then watched in horror as Harley placed his hand, directly into the burning blaze. He said nothing as he watched the flame lick his skin, eyes glistening with tears that won't fall.
"Stop that!" Harith yelled. "Stop making him hurt himself!"
Vexana didn't. She watched, amused at the sight. Harith went to grab her but a small hand grabbed his leg. He looked down to find Harley looking at him blankly, shaking his head slightly. He stopped for it was in that moment he realised just how much power the Nercomancer has.
He ended up sitting back down, clutching Harley close to him.
They couldn't let this continue, and so Harith made a resolve to leave with Harley, even though he knew he would be betraying his side of the deal. However, despite the consequences, it would be worth it.
He hoped it would.
