Harith walked on, listening to the melodic crunch of the fallen leaves beneath his feet. The surrounding forest gave him a false sense of ease, despite what had just occurred mere moments ago. He sighed ruefully. The feelings he had within these very woods would never be the same. He knew it wouldn't.
He then chuckled humourlessly. Harley wouldn't want to see him like this, yet Harith couldn't find it in his heart to just move on so quickly. These past two years living with Harley were short, yes, but they gave so much meaning to him that leaving it buried in the past and moving on seems like such an impossible task at the moment.
A small shift of movement caught his attention and he shifted his head from side to side wondering what ever creature just passed him. Then, he foolishly called out, "Hello?"
It was silent for a few moments. It had seemed that even the forest became still, tensing up the moment even more than it should be. It could very well be one of the little woodland creatures that lurk around this greenery, he thought.
He continued his walk, albeit a little more warily and alert now. He didn't trust to keep his guard down. Anything, or anyone could sneak up on him and he wouldn't even realise despite his enhanced senses. A small crack of a twig was heard from behind him. This made the mage stop once more.
"I can give you what you want." A raspy feminine voice said. Harith stilled. He knew that voice.
He turned around slowly to face the menace known as Vexana, the Necromancer. "Darling, why do you choose to wallow in such despair? I can give you what you want." She said gently, though there was an underlying tone of treachery underneath her sweet words.
"And how do you know what I want?" Harith said, his eyes narrowing.
She laughed. "I very well know what you desire. You wish to see your lover, is it not?"
Harith grimaced and despite how hard he tried to not show it, Vexana caught onto the movement very well.
"It seems I hit a sore spot." She giggled as if Harith just told her a joke.
"What do you want, Necromancer?" He spoke, not even bothering to hide how deeply he hated this woman.
She fixed him with those bright, teal eyes of hers. "I'm giving you the chance to see him again. Don't you want to see him again?"
Harith thought deeply. He not only wanted to see Harley again. He wanted to just caress him, feel him, know that he is right there and not gone.
"I can let you see him again, although it does come at a cost." She whispered.
The Leonin looked at her, frowning. Whatever this woman had in mind would definitely not be any good. And yet,
"What is it?" He said.
One of her grotesque hands hid her mouth as she spoke. "I'll just need you to fight for me. Fight against those filthy Moniyans. I can not do it myself, especially because resurrecting someone can take out a lot of energy from me."
He didn't know what to think. His whole life he had been taught to believe in the Moniyans. He even fought alongside them several times. But the want to see Harley again was so strong that it managed to cloud his sense of judgement.
Vexana stood knowingly, with her hand outstretched in front of her. "Deal?" She asked temptingly. Harith, on the other hand, was as still as a rock. He would be betraying everyone he loves if he does this. Well, those who aren't deceased anyways. He knew just how selfish his motives are, for his lover deserves the rest, yet he could not live without him. He gritted his teeth, and hesitantly grabbed the Necromancer's hand. "Deal."
