History, chemistry, and home cooking are my afternoon classes. Blakely is in my home cooking class. When I asked why he chose it he simply stated: "Don't ever taste mothers cooking only her desserts are edible."
"So she lets you cook dinner then?" I ask.
"Ya. Just so we eat something healthy. And plus, I love to cook and bake things. I do it all the time at home. Why're you taking this class?"
"I live with my grandparents over the summer to visit with them. And my grandma doesn't cook like she used to. So I cook the meals while I'm there."
"Cool. Do you want to be my cooking partner this semester?"
"Sure! And how about we choose what breakfast item we want to cook tomorrow as well. Omelet, waffles, or eggs rancheros?"
"I can make a good waffle batter. Let's do that." Blakely says.
"Okay then. See you tomorrow." I say when the bell rings for the end of school.
"See you later Dashia." he calls after me as I rush to my car to get out before the rest of school traffic.
"Dashia wait!" Ashlieh cries "You said you'd drive me home remember?" Oh darn, I had almost forgotten this year I was driving her home. Last year she drove me home after school every day. Now I was returning the favor like we agreed on.
" Oh sorry! I'm in such a rush to get him that I forgot. I'm so sorry! Hop in!" I say.
"Wow, nice ride Dash! I thought your parents weren't getting you a convertible, let alone a brand new one. I just love this shade of purple!"
"Daddy got it while I was away at my grandparent's house this summer." I pull out of the school parking lot behind Dustin's black mustang. Which he'd customized all by himself.
I drop Ashlieh off at home and drive to my house when I get a text from Dustin.
DUSTIN: CAN U MEET ME RIGHT NW? WE NEED 2 TOK.
ME: SURE... JUST LET ME CHEK IN W/ MOM 1ST
DUSTIN: MEET ME @ CINDY'S CAFE.
ME: OK
I wonder what he wants to talk about. I pull in front of my house, where there are always more places to find.
"Hey, mom! No homework so I'm going to Cindy's. Just dropping off my bag."
"Okay Dash. Just be home in time for dinner. Your aunt Holly is visiting for a week."
"No problem mom. See you later tonight."
