"Please?" You plead, grasping into Jean's arm while both of you walked slowly back to the cafeteria.

After a tiring hour of clean up duty, Corporal Levi finally became sympathetic enough to dismiss you for diner. Your arms wobbled, fatigued from scrubbing countless shelves filled with dust. And to think cleaning the hallways would be far too easy was your worst mistake.

Nevertheless, you reached the lunchroom with a growling stomach.

"No! Can't you wait a few hours f/n?" Jean complained, growing quite annoyed at your constant begging.

"Why won't you give my present now?!" You question him, grabbing a tray replete of bread and stew and taking a seat at the far corner.

It was your birthday. Yay. And with the celebrations came the hundreds of gifts, yet Jean was still concealing what he personally prepared for this special event. It was already nighttime and the anticipation was too much to handle. You swallowed down the entire bowl, now devouring the pieces of bread.

"Because it's a damn surprise! Will you stop pleading already?" He glared back, those hazel eyes trying their best to end the conversation. You decided to rest the ruckus for the time being, subsequently stealing Jean's bread after finishing the ones on your plate.

"Give it back,"

"It's my birthday." You argued, holding onto the loaf.

He let out an eloquent groan, "You should stop using your birthday as a silly excuse."

"And you should stop postponing my gift."

His eyes twitched in vexation before resuming his eating. You slightly smirked while nibbling the dry and crusty bread, enlightened by your successful triumph. Slowly, the rest of your comrades began leaving the cafeteria, casually congratulating you with a quick hug and warm smiles.

Soon enough, Jean also finished his meal as he ushered you back to your room. You scrutinized his every movement, expecting to discover the 'so wanted' present. But before any unusual gesture could be spotted, you reached the room you currently shared with Sasha.

"Well?"

"Well what?"

"My present?" You asked, fidgeting with your cuticles with anxiousness. Jean raised his arm, scratching his neck as you suddenly noticed how uneasy the environment felt. It didn't take long for you to comprehend Jean didn't prepare a gift since the beginning. You didn't deny the squeeze that was pressuring your muscles, nor the disappointed aura that lingered within you.

"About that..." He muttered, running his trembling hand over his two-toned hair, "I don't have it. But please, listen to my reasoning." His hand immediately gripped your wrist, preventing you from running away.

You looked sideways, nodding for Jean to proceed, not sure whether you really wanted to hear him out.

"I went all the way to wall Sina, in search of your present. Shop after boutique after bakery, and still I couldn't possibly find the gift that could perfectly suit you f/n. Actually, I don't think there is such thing that can compensate how flawless you are." He stuttered, drops of sweat gradually descending down his forehead while he struggled to find the right words, to gain your belief.

And in the snap of a second, the world seemed brighter. You concealed your sigh of relief, choosing to joke around for the meantime, "How am I supposed to believe your bullshit Kirschtein?"

His eyes widen in pure shock and doubt, "P-p-please f/n, you just have to! Ask Sasha, she tried helping too!" You maintain a stern glare with crossed arms below your chest, before allowing yourself to laugh hysterically.

"It's ok Jean, I believe you." He sighs, clutching his chest while breathing heavily. You envelop his torso, resting your cheek on his frame, inhaling the soothing aroma that roamed through his clothes.

Carefully, you glued off from Jean and opened your door slightly, hoping Sasha wasn't inside. To much joy, the only sound filling the room was the soft breeze sipping through the open window. You rapidly dragged Jean inside, shutting the door behind and beckoning him to the bed.

"F/n? I shouldn't be here." He said, taking a seat at the corner of the mattress with a worried expression.

You chuckled, taking off the billions of garments, a bit concerned yourself that someone might barge in at any moment. Nonetheless, you sunk down the bed with a loud sigh before crawling under the fuzzy sheets. Jean did the same, quickly enveloping the covers over his bare shoulders.

Today wasn't as grand as you dreamed it to be, but cuddling with Jean after a tiring day sure paid off. His warm chest hugged you close, his warm breathing tickling your forehead while the silence still lurked around.

"I'm sorry again." He mumbled, playing with strings of your h/c hair. Those delicate fingers released the tension in your muscles while you hummed a quiet melody.

"Being here with you is more than enough." You said, tracing circles on his silky skin.

Things remained pacific and frankly, there wasn't a better gift to be given. Perhaps it was the pleasant silence, or the warmth that Jean spread to you, or the peaceful environment. Or perhaps it was all of those things gleaned together.

You could feel the heavy weight tempting you to fall into slumber, making you snuggle even closer to Jean's frame. But still, you tried hard not to doze off in fear of Sasha coming in unexpectedly or rather being caught after curfew.

"Go to sleep f/n." Jean whispered, tracing your jawline with his index finger, his touch shooting shivers down your skin. You mumbled an 'okay', now allowing yourself to escape reality and ingress into your deepest dreams with a faint smile on your face.

The ecstatic sound of an opening door set your eyes wide open, while you stood up with the covers shielding your chest, only to glance at Sasha who had a smile that was far too stretched for her cheeks.

"Awww! So kawaii!" Sasha yelled, hopping up and down.
