The helicopter lands on a pad that connects to a shabby looking Mana One. "No offense, but I thought it was gonna be more impressive." I decide. "Just wait." Mac says. We climb out, and meet with some dude in a hat and some chick who looks like an angsty teen by a blank elevator. "We've got a new problem. It's your daughter. She left in a glider to try and save them." The girl says. "And you let her?" "Believe me, I didn't let her do anything." "I was under the impression you were supposed to save people dying on the bottom of the ocean." Trucker dude adds. "Who's He?" Jonas ask. "I'm the person that paid for all this." Jonas nods. "You know, they look heroic, and they walk fast, but he kinda has a negative attitude." Trucker says, like we aren't here. "Get used to it." I snap. "Her too." He decides. "And you?" I ask the girl. "I'm the person that designed all this." She replies with pride. "So you're saying our lives rest in your hands?" Jonas cuts in. "Yeah. Is there a problem with that?" She asks, still smiling. "Nah, you're the only one that looks like they know what they're doing 'round here." I decide. She looks like she's won the lottery.
The elevator dings. The girl, Jax, and the guy, Morris, leave with Mac. Jonas and I start to follow, but are stopped by Dr. Zhang. "Mac, tell Dr. Heller to meet us in the medical ward." Zhang says. "Heller?" Jonas and I shout at the same time. "Did I forgot to mention that?" Mac says smugly. "Motherfucker" I shout at him as the doors start closing. Dammit Mac. I'm pissed.

Mac comes to check on the checkup. "Suyin left in a glider 15 minutes ago." Mac tells Dr. Zhang. I groan inwardly. Suyin, Dr. Zhang's daughter, makes one more person to save. I stand next to Jonas, since I've already been checked. "There're in perfect health." Heller tells him. Part of me is surprised I don't have alcohol poisoning or anything, but I'll take it. "Just like the last time you checked us." Jonas says, giving Heller a death glare. Jonas starts taking off the blood pressure band from around his arm. "We aren't done." Heller starts. "I think we are, we're losing time. And we're on international waters. Which mean one of us could kick your ass, and get away with it." I state, not taking this shit. "She's right. Legally." Mac confirms.
Mac takes us to another room to get ready. The room has computers and screens everywhere. I assume their cameras for the ship Lori's on since a lot of them have error signs on them. People bustle around, trying to come up with solutions. Mac hands us each a communicator. "They're below 1100 feet. You'll have to go through the thermal cline. One of you will go." Mac informs us, whilst leading us to the dock. "Why get both of us then?" I ask. "Moral support." Mac shrugs. Mac leaves and Jonas turns to me. "I'll go, you stay here." Jonas says. I scoff at him. "Not happening. I can do this, Jonas. You can come into the sub with me, help me set up, then leave." He scowls when he knows he's lost the argument. I laugh, and head toward the sub. While climbing into the sub I notice Captain Bubble written in bright colors. I assume it's from a kid. I point out the writing to Jonas with a smile on my face. I love kids, they're a lot more fun than an adults.
Jonas smirks, and climbs into the sub with me. I hit the lights, and notice a small figure in the head seat. She turns. "You must be the crazy people." She says, smiling. "Now who called us that?" I ask her. "My mom, the doctor." She replies. "Well, we just have seen things nobody else has seen." Jonas tells her. She laughs. "That's the definition of crazy." I laugh with her. I look back to see Jonas smile. My heart flutters at his smile. After he told me he and Lori were over, my feelings for him got stronger. Despite our distance. The girl, Meiying, notices my staring, so she gives me a knowing smile. I laugh at her.
"So where are your parents?" Jonas asks her. "My mom is trying to save our friends from the bottom of the ocean. My dad is with a palatines instructor in Taipei. Grandfather says mom needs to move on, but mom says she's needs more time because she was married to an a-hole." She replies. I snicker at her words. "Sounds like your mom has a point." Jonas says. "You know a lot." I praise her. "8 year olds hear everything." She laughs. Jonas moves over to her. "Mind if she gives it a try." He says, gesturing to the ship. She nods, and starts to leave, but stops to turn and ask us a question. "Hey crazy's? Is my mom gonna die?" I turn to her. My heart breaks a little. "I'll bring her back safe and sound. And Captain Bubbles." I reassure her.
I turn on my intercom. "Okay, Jonas, time to go." I turn to him. "Let me do this." He sighs. I shake my head. "Get lost, Taylor." He pats my shoulder, then leaves. My hand brushes across the spot he touched. I hear Mac laugh, and I clear my throat since I remember they can see my on the cameras. "Ready for launch." I hear Mac say. I hesitate. I'm getting psyched out. "(Y/N)?" I hear Jonas say. I shake my head, and release the sub. I start to descend rapidly, and turn off all nonessential items like heat. "I'm good Jonas." I reassure. I know I'm descending too fast, so I'm not surprised when Mac calls me out. "(Y/N)?" He calls. "Not slowing down, Heller. Busy saving people." I reply. "(Y/N), slow down." Jonas tries telling me. "You'd do the same thing, so shut your trap." I reply. Since it's a single channel communicator, I'm not surprised to hear Jonas arguing with Suyin about coming back a few moments earlier.
"It's a giant squid, it has the glider. It's crushing me, Mac, it's crushing me. I don't think the glider can take it." Suyin shouts, which catches my attention. "Oh my god." I hear her say. "What's going on?" I ask. "It's a shark, it's 20, 25 meters." She says in awe. "A megalodon." I say, I turn to face the camera. "I'm so glad we're not crazy." I say, mostly to Heller. "At this speed, and the heaters gone, I need to turn off anything that will ice over. See you guys in a bit." I say, and turn off the cameras before someone can argue. At this drop in altitude, my ears start to hurt. I try to pop them by plugging my nose, closing my mouth, and blowing. It works slightly, but when I pull my hand away from my nose, there's blood. I speed up anyway. Suyin is going to need help. I pass through the thermal cline. I see the shark heading towards Suyin. I light off flares in the water so it will head away from her. I move away from the flares after they're shot, and the shark is quick to check them out. "Suyin, blow you're tanks." "No I can help you with the ship." "Your glider is damaged. You can't help this time." I tell her. I hear her curse before she heads up. "Dr. Zhang, your daughter is headed up." I tell him.
I line up with the subs rescue hatch, land, and go to open the hatch. I immediately see Lori. "Jonas says, tell me this isn't the worlds best I told you so." She laughs a little. "He came all the way here to tell me that, didn't he." I shrug. "Probably. Come on." I lift her onboard with the help of the man below her. I notice a screwdriver in her abdomen. "That looks bad. Ready?" I raise her the rest of the way up, and she winces . Once she's safe another guy starts to go up the ladder. I notice the sonar picking up something. "It's coming, hurry." "We're not gonna make it." The man climbs into the rescue sub. "Come on, Toshi." Before anyone can do anything, Toshi closes the hatch, and releases the sub. "Toshi, no!" The man shouts. We rise rapidly, and when we look down we see the shark ram into the ship, causing it to explode. Of course the shark got away. Lori and the man cry, tears fall my eyes. I clear my head, and raise the ship quickly. Rescue missions suck. I decide.
I get to the dock, and help the doctor get Lori on a gurney. The man, referred to as The Wall, walks to Dr. Zhang, and hands him a note grudgingly. I see Jonas at the end of the docks, and start to head towards him, but I'm stopped by Suyin. "You couldn't save Toshi?" She asks with anger. "He closed the hatch. He saved us." I reply calmly. "You left him, didn't you. Because that's who you two are. You leave people." Her words sting. Tears prick my eyes, but I don't let the, fall. Jonas notices this conflict, and comes in time to hear her. "You go that deep, you take your life into your hands. It was your choice to send him down there. (Y/N) did what she could." Jonas tells her, defending me. "This is why we don't do this anymore, Mac." He finishes, turns to me, and leads me away from them.
A few tears roll down my cheeks. Jonas stops, and faces me towards him. "She doesn't know what she's talking about, (Y/N), you did everything you could." He reassures, wiping my tears. I nod, wipe my face, and hug him. He hugs me back. "I'm gonna go check on Lori, wanna come with me?" He asks. I nod because I still want be with him. We get down to the medical bay, and see Heller. "How is she?" Jonas asks. "She lost a lot of blood, but she's stable." Heller replies. "Guys, I'm sorry." I just nod in acknowledgment. Really, it's because Heller's diagnosis completely uprooted our lives, and I do t feel like going into it right now. "You save Lori, we'll call it even." A pang of jealousy hits me. Does he still have a thing for Lori? I think. I instantly regret it. That's real bitchy of me. "Come on (Y/N), you need to get some sleep." Jonas leads me to the wing of room. "Good night Jonas. Thanks." I give him a weak smile. He gives his smirk. "Night." He walks towards his room. My stomach erupts into butterflies. I wonder what he feels for me.
