Surprise Visit

The next morning I get a knock on my door. I quickly throw on the shirt I was debating on, and go open it. Suyin barges in saying something about being wrong. "I'm sorry. I was angry, and wasn't thinking. I know you did all you could." I nod. "Thanks, Suyin. It's hard for me too, you know? I may not have been close to Toshi, but I lost him on my rescue. Sacrifice or not. I keep thinking, what if I had gotten there a few minutes before?" She nods, and gives my shoulder a reassuring squeeze before leaving.  Weird. I lace up a pair on converse, and leave to head to Jonas's room. I knock on his door, and he opens it. I don't pay attention, and walk in with my head turned back. "Hey! Suyin just came into my room to apologize— oh!" I cut myself off as I noticed he was in a towel. A blush rises to my cheeks. Lucky for me he doesn't say a thing. "Sorry. I just came in here to tell you how Suyin apologized randomly, and...uh, I'll wait outside for you to get dressed." I rush out of the room, my face getting more and more red.

I close the door behind me, and lean on the wall. Goddammit, you idiot. Mac walks towards me, a knowing smirk plastered on his face. "Say anything, and won't say anything ever again." I say intensely. He laughs. "Sure, whatever. We're having a meeting about the shark. Meet us there with Jonas?" I nod, and he walks away. I wait a few moments before Jonas walks out of his room. "Such a peeping Tom." Jonas teases. "Well you opened the door." I defend. "Come on. To the meeting room." I lead. We walk into the room, but only stay in the doorway. Jonas leans on the frame, and I stand in the middle. Mr. Morris is busy babbling about some stupid shit when a small voice whispers. "Hey crazy's." Meiying sits behind the doorframe, using a finger to motion us downward. We both crouch to her level. "Thank you for keeping your promise." She smiles. "Your welcome." She stands, and walks away.

Jonas and I stand to hear Morris talking. "So like it or not—" Jonas cuts him off. "You seem to like it." Morris looks confused. "Excuse me." I move forward. "He said you seem to like it." Morris shakes his head in disbelief. "I'm sorry, are they apart of this team." "You're damn right they are." The Wall says intensely. "Okay. Right." Morris backs off. "I'm just saying. Did you ever stop to think that Mother Nature knew what she was doing? That the thermal cline might just be there for a reason?" Jonas says seriously. "You wanna explore? Explore. But don't come to us to save your asses. Because in case you haven't noticed, man versus meg isn't a fight. It's a slaughter." Jonas glares at Morris before leaving. "He's right. This isn't a fight mankind can win." I add before following Jonas.

I find him packing his stuff in his room. "Leaving so soon?" I tease. He looks up. "They're idiots, and I'm not." He states. "What side of the scale am I on?" He doesn't hesitate to answer. "No matter if you stay or go, you're no idiot." I laugh. "Well if you're cool with it, I'll go back to Thailand with you for awhile." He smiles. "Sure, I—" He's cut off by a shaking in the base. We share a look, and bolt it down to the underwater halls. We see Mac and Suyin calling for Meiying. When we come to a fork, we split. Mac goes one way, and us three go the other. We find a trembling Meiying, and teeth marks in the glass. Shark teeth marks that are way too big. Suyin immediately crouches to her, and consoles her. "There's a monster, and it's watching us." Meiying says shakily. Mac comes from around the corner. We are all startled when a baby whale bumps the glass. "Don't worry it's just a whale." Jonas tells Meiying. "Wait where's Lucy? Where's the mom?" Suyin asks. Suddenly the shark comes up, and eats the baby whale. Suyin covers Meiying's face, while I grip Jonas's arm. Shit...
