Tagging the Beast

We rush into the control room. "No visible damage." The Wall reports. "No one is to go near the water." Mac tells the crew. "Turn off underwater lighting in nonessential areas." I tell Mac, and he rushes to do just that. "I thought you said it was impossible for that thing to get up here." DJ says to Suyin. "It should have been." She replies. "Guys look at this." Jax says, motioning to the computer screen. "Here, the thermal cline is intact. At -1* Celsius, but then Suyin's glider comes up, warming up the water by 25*. The shark could come right through there. 20 sharks for that matter." She points. "So you're saying that we opened up a super highway for mega sharks?" Morris asks. "No, it's seems to have been a transitory event. The temperature went back down, and the thermal cline is intact." Jax concludes. "Yea, but not before some prehistoric fish came up to say hi." DJ says sarcastically. "We need to find that thing, and kill it." Jonas says.

Suyin stands up. "No, this is a scientific discovery. We have to look into non lethal options first." I move forward. "For us or the meg because as far as I'm concerned, this thing is just going to cause mass destruction. I know you all about your research and discovery, but not this time." I tell her calmly, but grimly. "Hey, I'm getting something about a damaged boat a few miles from here on the radio." Mac reports, walking back into the room. "Guess that's where we're headed." I say. Jonas, Suyin, Dr. Zhang, Dr. Heller, Jax, Wall, DJ, Mr. Morris, and I board a boat called Charlotte, and head off to the report area. As we get closer we see chunks of the boat floating in the water, as well as small, dead sharks. Mac uses a long hook to skim the remains. "This sharks don't have fins." DJ spots. "They're killed by poachers. They cut off their fins, and leave them to die. All for a bowl of soup." Dr. Zhang says with anger. "Looks like meg evened the score." Mac says, pulling up a human arm. I grimace. I look away, and into the distance to see the meg's dorsal fin.

"Guys, look." I point. "How do we kill it?" Wall asks. "The shark cage won't be ready for another 20 minutes." Jax says. "Why don't you put a tracker on it?" Morris says out of nowhere. Everyone gives him a blank stare. "Don't you guys ever watch shark week. Put one of those tracker GPS thingies. Keep an eye on the shark until the cage is ready." Wall nods. "We should be able to put a tracker in that dorsal fin." "One person would be best. It creates less vibration." Suyin pipes up. "Yeah, but who's making that swim?" DJ asks, ever the pessimist. "Let's draw straws." Jax suggests. "I can't swim." Morris says urgently. I roll my eyes at him. "Sorry, my body made me say that." He adds, sitting down again. Jonas looks at Suyin. "Are you sure about this?" She starts nods before replying, "Not really." He smirks. "If I get eaten, you're gonna feel really bad." She pauses before holding up her thumb and index finger close together as if saying only a little bit.

I quickly pull Jonas away from Suyin. Partly to get him away from her and partly to scold him. "Jonas, no. I'll do it. You're going to get yourself killed." He crosses him arms. "Right because you won't if you do it. No, you took the last one. I'll take this one." "That was different. We didn't know there was going to be a 70 foot long shark." I growl. "I'll be fine. I promise to to not get eaten." And with that he goes to get geared up. My face contorts into some unholy face of anger. "Don't worry about him so much, (Y/N). He's just as capable. Or maybe you don't want him to die before you have the chance to kiss him." Mac interrupts my thoughts. I blush profusely. Dammit Mac. "N-no. I-I just like him alive." Mac raises his eye brows. "You're really bad at lying." I laugh. "Fine. You're partly right." He laughs too. I smile. I can't wait for normal moments like this again.

Jonas P.O.V.

I connect the line to my belt. I look over at (Y/N). She's still scowling. She's cute when she's angry. Her (H/C) hair moves softly in the breeze. Mac suddenly comes over to her. Their conversation is hushed, so I can't hear it. I get a burst of jealousy though, when she blushes at something Mac says. The green monster grows when she laughs too. She smiles at him. That's enough. I decide "Mac! How close do I have to by to the shark." I say walking over to them

(Y/N) P.O.V.

Jonas walks over. Mac hands him a tracker dart gun. "100 feet. Are you sure you don't want me to go?" Mac asks. "I'm fine." Jonas replies angrily. What's he so mad about? "Good, because I was lying." Mac says. I laugh at his remark. Jonas stiffens slightly, which doesn't go unnoticed by me. Could he be... jealous. Interesting. I mentally smile. Maybe he feels the same. In a burst of confidence I kiss his cheek before he goes into the water. His face turns a very light shade of pink. Not a blusher. "Keep your promise." I say. He nods, then gets into the water. I watch as he steadily head to the shark. "The sharks going under." Morris notes. I see Jonas out on goggle, and dive under the water to find it for a few agonizing moments. Jonas eventually comes back up, along with the shark. He points the dart gun at the fin, shoots, and hits the fin. "The tracker is in, Mac." Jonas says over the mic. "Good, reel him in." I'm about to say no, but Suyin beats me to it. "Stop, no vibration." It's too late though. Even though they had only pulled him a few yards, the shark notices and swims at him. Jonas hurry! "Jonas, it's coming at you!" Jax yells into the mic. "You think I didn't notice?" Jonas shouts back, not bothering with the mic. "Start the boat." He loses the goggle and gun, and hurriedly swims back. DJ starts the line again, and Heller starts the boat.

The meg is right got on him. My anxiety peaks. "Go faster!" I shout. "Don't you think I would if I could?" Heller replies. Jonas in brought under the water for a few moment, along with the shark. My heart stops, but then I see him leap out of the water and on to the boat. The meg narrowly misses him. Jonas lays on his back laughing. I rush to his side. "Son of a bitch don't do that again!" I shout at him. He laughs more. "You maybe a son of a bitch, but you sure as hell no coward." Heller tells him. Suyin hold up her fingers once again. "Told ya I'd keep my promise." He says, sitting up. "Barely." I grumble. I pull him into a hug. "I like you alive, thank you very much."
