Aiden
After calling Anthony and Emily to come get Declan, I went home to get the emergency bags, and then took an Uber to Ali's house.
The next three hours were spent with Lex insisting on standing, leaning against the wall, or the table, or the counter when the contractions hit, with pain so strong her arms were shaking.
We tried to get her to sit down, but eventually she yelled at all of us to shut the fuck up, and I decided that she's in a lot of pain, and she's stubborn usually without pain, and it's her body. If she wants to stand, she can stand.
Right when her contractions hit five minutes apart, lasting for a full minute, and continuing on for an hour, I put her in the car and we went to the hospital, where she immediately declined an epidural with the phrase, "I'm not a bitch."
Now though, I have a feeling something is wrong. She's dilated to six, and she's stayed at six for the last twelve hours, and she's been crying nonstop in constant pain for the last six hours. The machine that is reading her contractions tells me that they are stopping, but Lexi's heartrate is through the roof, and the pain in her body isn't stopping, even though the machine is telling everyone it should be.
I turn to the doctor.
"The machine is saying her contractions are stopping, but her pain is horrible and it's not going away. Something is wrong." I've spoken to the doctor about this two other times, but she isn't listening to me.
"I think she's just having a lot of contractions." The doctor says.
"No. I've delivered babies before. This is not contractions, you and I both know it." I say stubbornly. "Something is wrong."
The doctor holds my gaze for a moment, and then she nods her head.
"I'll do an ultrasound. See if we're missing anything."
"Thank you."
I turn back to Lex, grabbing her hand.
"Hey, hey baby, they're going to run some tests, okay?"
She's covered in sweat and tears. I know she's trying her hardest not to make any noise. I kiss her forehead.
The doctor walks out and takes the nurse with her, leaving us alone. Lex looks at me.
"It's...not labor." She's shaking terribly and I just want to take all of her pain away. It physically hurts to see her like this.
"I know," I rub her shoulder. "I know it's not. They're going to check everything, okay?"
She blinks slowly, and then her entire body goes limp, and I hear a long continuous beep from the heart monitor.
I blink, and then I realize that her heart stopped.
I launch myself forward and slam my hand down on the blue button.
"Lex. Lexi," I shake my head to myself.
This is fake, right? It's a prank?
I hear code blue being said throughout the hospital, and then a whole wave of doctors and nurses come in.
One of the doctors climbs right up into the bed with Lex, doing chest compressions.
"You need to go to the waiting room." The doctor orders. "We're taking her for an emergency C-Section."
"Save my wife."
"What?"
My voice was barely above a whisper.
