okay so this is just a short little drabble in honor of peter parker's birthday being today (august 10). i legit wrote it over the course of like fifteen minutes so there are no promises as to how good it is.
PLEASE READ THE A/N AT THE END OF THE CHAPTER
It was hot when Peter woke up. That was the first thing he noticed, the raging heat of the August morning. It may or may not have had something to do with the fact that he forgot to close his window last night when he got home from patrol, but that wasn't the point. The point was that it was hot and Peter didn't know how to fix it. He was so focused on cooling down that he forgot the importance of the day that he had just woken to.
It wasn't until he made his way into the kitchen, ready to complain about the lack of air conditioning to his Aunt May when he remembered. Today was August 10th. His birthday.
"Happy birthday!" May called from behind the counter.
"Thanks." Peter smiled, his temperature predicament suddenly forgotten.
"I have to get to work, but I'll meet you here are four to get to the compound for dinner, right?"
"Yep. Me, Ned, and MJ."
"Of course. Love you!" She called as she rushed out the door.
And just like that, Peter was left to himself again. He wasn't really sure what to do with his day. It was a Saturday and school didn't start for another week. He had almost nothing to do. He could work on the remainders of summer homework, but why would he do that when he could save it for tomorrow?
He had just settled into the couch with a bowl of cereal when there was a knock on his door. He hadn't even bothered to change out of his pajamas yet. Peter hoped that whoever was at the door would not care about the fact that he was in his pajamas as he got up from the cushion he had just sat down upon. He placed his bowl on the coffee table and rushed to the door. Thankfully, it was just Ned and MJ. Two people perfectly okay with his state of being partially asleep still. Both of his friends were clearly very awake, particularly Ned.
"Hey Peter, we know it's early but we really wanted to surprise you." Ned began to ramble almost too quickly for Peter to understand the words falling from his friend's mouth.
"I may have made the mistake of giving him coffee." MJ said, "I take full responsibility for the chaos that ensues."
Peter laughed a little before giving MJ a quick kiss hello.
"So what are the plans, birthday boy?" Ned asked.
"I have absolutely no idea."
"What? Really?"
"I didn't really think about anything beyond the dinner that Mr. Stark is hosting for me at the tower."
"Clearly," MJ responded, pointing out his pajamas.
"Come on! We gotta do something fun."
"I dunno," Peter said, "I don't really feel like doing something huge."
"We could watch movies?" MJ suggested.
"Oooh, yes, let's watch Star Wars," Ned said excitedly.
"Ned, calm down, it's Peter's birthday, his choice."
"That actually sounds pretty fun." Peter cut in. "Can I just put some actual clothes on first?"
"Of course,"
And that was how they spent the day, MJ curled up next to Peter, Ned on the chair next to the couch, watching Star Wars. And somehow, it was perfect.
Four o'clock rolled around too soon and before he knew it, Peter was on his way to the Avenger Compound in the back of the car that Happy was driving. He was squished in between the other two teens with May in the front seat.
Peter didn't exactly know what to expect from this birthday dinner that Mr. Stark was planning for him, but he knew that if Tony Stark planned it, it was going to be big. He'd been questioned on his favorite foods and desserts multiple times.
And Peter was right, as soon as he walked into the common area of the Avengers Compound, there was no doubt that Mr. Stark had gone big. It looked as though every inch of surface and wall space were covered in some sort of decoration. A good portion of the Avengers were present as well. Many of them hadn't even met this teenager that Stark wanted to throw the perfect party for, but that hadn't stopped their attendance. And they all shouted "Happy birthday!" when he entered the room.
There was pizza for dinner, cake and ice cream dessert. It wasn't exactly Peter's favorite foods, but Peter had absolutely refused to tell his mentor his favorite food and dessert (and by that, i mean i have no idea what they are). Stark had assumed that pizza, cake, and ice cream were a safe bet. Spoiler alert: they were.
Another spoiler alert: Peter had one of the best birthdays he'd ever had. He was surrounded by heroes and people who were there to celebrate him. Him. He had no idea how good it felt to have a room full of people there to celebrate him but now he knew, it felt amazing. He fell into bed happy that night.
