If there was one thing that Peter Parker did not like, it was attention. But that didn’t stop him from getting it. First, it was from Flash, the cruel attention that comes with bullying. Then, it was from the public as Spider-Man began to gain more popularity. There was so much attention on him.

But all of the attention changed when someone revealed his identity to the public. He had thought that he’d taken down the Green Goblin, and he had, but not before the villain could release Spider-Man’s true identity to the public. And now Peter had to deal with the fallout.

He hadn’t been to school in two weeks since his identity had been revealed to the public. He’d been staying at the compound with Aunt May, just to make sure that nobody with a hatred for the hero tried to attack them. He didn’t want to go back to school, he really didn’t, but he knew that he had to go back eventually. Aunt May and Tony tried convincing him otherwise but nothing was going to stop him from finishing his education. Tony had offered May a job on the medical team they kept at the compound for when missions went bad and she had accepted. Peter and May now lived full time at the compound. So Peter figured that now was as good a time as ever to make his return to Midtown.

Happy drove him to school on the morning of his return and he made sure to arrive early. Peter had to talk to his teachers about making up for the work he missed and he wanted to avoid seeing people as much as possible.

His teachers were shocked, to say the least. Not just with his other identity, but with the fact that he had returned. They had assumed that he wouldn’t be coming back now that his cover as a regular high school student was blown. But there he was, requesting his make-up work.

First period was the worst. Nobody had had time yet to gossip or spread the news that Peter Parker, Spider-Man was back. He was pestered with questions and with the looks of shocked students. Everyone wanted to know what it was like to be a superhero. His teacher wasn't much help either. It seemed that everyone was affected by the want to hear more about Peter Parker. And Peter Parker hated it.

Ned and MJ knew that he'd be returning on the day in question but that hadn't been enough for them to prepare for the help that Peter needed in staying sane. In the weeks after Peter's identity had been revealed, they'd dealt with a lot of questions regarding their best friend and how he spends his nights but it was nothing in comparison to what happened when he returned.

They met him outside of his first period class to walk to P.E. together. A group of other students followed closely behind him, doing a horrible job at pretending they weren't. And Ned didn't miss the looks of admiration Peter was getting from a group of freshman girls as they passed. It was P.E., however, when things exploded. They were playing basketball today and Flash decided it was the perfect way to make fun of Peter.

"So if Peter's bad at basketball, that means Spider-Man is also bad at basketball, doesn't it." Peter heard Flash say loudly before he even made it out of the locker room. When Flash was chosen, he made sure not to pick Peter. That was okay, though, because Peter knew the other team captain quite well, having met him through his work with the Avengers. Wade Wilson was more than happy to have his super-friend on his team.

It was funny, as soon as Flash had discovered that it was, in fact, Peter Parker under the Spider-Man mask, his love for the hero had disappeared.

One of the things that changed upon the world discovering Peter's identity was his will to continue keeping his powers quiet. What was the point if everyone already knew about them? And that meant actually putting in an effort to do well in P.E. And excelling. His classmates were far more shocked than they should have been at his "new" skills. Sure, they'd all seen the boy in the suit fighting crime on the internet doing some of these same moves, but it hadn't really hit them that that meant the nerd of their grade, Peter Parker, also had these skills.
