Seven months later
I am walking in the cold and the snow, decided not to turn off my path. If I do, I know I would get lost. The voice keeps on calling my name and rings in my head, like a barely audible whisper. As I peek over my shoulder, I notice that my footprints are disappearing as soon as I lift a foot off the ground.
That place oozes magic. A very ancient magic.
A sudden noise on my left makes me jump. It was an owl...An owl? Here? I instinctively know that its mere presence is an aberration."Freezer burn!" I exclaim in a voice that doesn't sound like mine, hurling a spell at the winged creature.
As soon as the light blue jolt touches it, the bird vanishes into the void in a plume of smoke, as if it never existed.
My heart starts beating faster and faster as I catch sight of my destination in the distance: a dilapidated little hut, in which a stoop-shouldered hooded person enter in. A sort of black smoke comes out of the chimney.
I continue to advance. I have to get there.
The voice becomes more and more distinct as I am getting closer to the hut. Suddenly, an ear-splitting sound emerges out of nowhere..."WAKEY-WAKEY!!!"
I jump and fall off my bed, landing abruptly to the ground. My aunt Stormy bursts into laughter.
I sit up and glare up at her. "What in Magix was that?!" I growl.
She smiles innocently at me. "You have to get up, Eirlys. Today's the day!" she tells me in a somewhat mocking tone.
Yes, today I will finally go to Arcane, the school of black arts. That would normally put me in a rather good mood, but that rude awakening ruined it all.
I growl again and stand up."Go take a shower, I will bring your suitcase to the entrance hall." she then tells me, smirking to herself.
As I walk into my personal bathroom, a smirk similar to Stormy's suddenly appears on my face. I peek over my shoulder. My aunt has her back turned to me, busy packing my suitcase. I grab a glass and fill it with water. Then, as I step towards her, the storm witch suddenly turns around and snaps her fingers. In less than one second, the glass has emptied itself on my head. Stormy laughs again.
"Always so predictable..." she scoffs, grinning at me. "You will have to work on that as a witch."
I sigh and roll my eyes. One day I'll get you, aunt Stormy!
"By the way, you received a letter this morning." she tells, pointing at my bedside table.
I raise an eyebrow. Who could write to me?
I pick up the letter and start to read it."Dear Eirlys,
I write this letter to you because I was wondering how you were doing. You left the school so suddenly last year, I miss our secret meetings! When you left, Julia kept bragging to everyone that she managed to kick you out, but the others got annoyed by that quickly. Oh, and by the way: the day after you left, Vexy broke her leg during sport class, and she had to use crutches for the rest of the year. I guess that was what some call 'Karma'...
I hope we will be able to be in touch this year.
Kiss, Leah"As I walk back to the bathroom, I can't help beaming. I have never forgotten about Leah, my only friend back at my former school. The fact that she wants to keep in contact with me fills me with joy.
Once I am finally ready, I walk down the stairs and head for the entrance hall, where both of my aunts are waiting for me.
Aunt Darcy stares at me strangely.
