This is honestly such an important concept and it has been so helpful to me personally.
As I mentioned before, you know exactly what your story is about. You probably have most of your story memorized (though subconsciously). Of course reading over it is going to be boring! You've read it all before!
You have to keep in mind that you readers have never seen it before. Everything is new to them. It isn't boring or dry.
If you go back and edit (i'm not talking about for the simple things like typos), you will just get discouraged because everything will seem so disinteresting to you. Trust me, for major fixes, don't edit, rewrite. It might even help unstick a stuck story.
I have rewritten one story 4 times and I like it so much better now. I'm even thinking about rewriting it again. You just keep the parts you like and scrap the rest. It is honestly so refreshing.
Keept the old drafts, though. You might go back through later and find a line that you liked or a scene you're not quite ready to give up on.
Try switching point of views. Try switching ages or adding or subtracting traits. Don't be afraid to try anything and everything. You don't have to show anyone the stuff you didn't like. That is all your own private stuff.
It will also make you hate your own work less because everything is new and exciting. Try everything!
