XVIII

Natsu POV

Dark.
Darker.
Darkest.

I could no longer rely on sight. My ears twitched as they heard breathing.

The thump of a heartbeat echoed in my ears. My tail swished as I prepared to leap. Muscles taut, head cocked, concentrated.

Then I leaped.

Aurora dodged sidestepping in a whirlwind. I listened as the crackling indicated she changed to wolf. Landing lightly, I dashed right. She jumped up, and I jumped when right underneath her, raising a paw to slash at her exposed belly.

She quickly changed to a bat form and slid underneath me in human when I landed on the ground. She dragged a claw against my stomach, blood dripping on the floor.

I kicked her, blindly. My human hands choking her human neck. She snarled, transforming to wolf. She ripped her throat out of my hands, and I dodged a slash.

"You've gotten better," Aurora said, blood dripping down her side. The little splat of the blood hitting the ground became a steady stream. Her wings had emerged, making her bob up and down in the sky.

Panting, I nodded. "You've gotten worse."

I attacked. Leaping up into the sky, changing halfway up to boost my jump. My ears twitched as I heard a meow. Crap, how did I not notice that Happy was on me?

I made the mistake of opening my eyes. I bursted through illusions of blood, of my childhood, of...

Igneel.

Father! I tried to cry. My voice felt blocked. I was distantly aware of falling. Dad! I found you!

He shook his head, then disappeared. I felt a thump, pain against my back, shouts, then black.

*Le tiny time skip because of shapow pew pew pew fights*

When I came to, I heard a shink. Paws batted my face and herbs were shoved in my mouth. A wavering breath sounded shallow, so it was probably farther away than Wendy's panicking, loud breaths. Someone was behind Wendy.

"Wendyyyyyyy," I groaned. "No herbs! I'll smell of vegan! (Nothing against vegans)"

I opened my eyes. The mist had disappeared, and Wendy was smiling down at me along with Lucy who was being supported by Levy.

I turned around, still on the ground. Dirt dug into my skin as I watched Lucas step forward towards Aurora. He's alive?

His hands were up, non threatening, and they slowly walked towards each other until in a firm embrace.

"Aurora..."

"Lucas! Why? Why did they leave?" Aurora's cries were muffled.

Slowly, one of his hands drifted to his side, where a short sword was held in its scabbard. He drew it, slowly. Everyone's breath hitched.

It was positioned behind Aurora's back.

"'Rora? I love you."

Then, he stabbed.

Blood spewed everywhere. After a second, Aurora pulled away from the embrace.

"And you, Lucas?"

She died, slumping over.

I got up from the ground, my eyes positioned on Lucas. However, I blinked, once, and then I saw the blood.

It was his blood.

The sword had been long enough to pierce both of them. It settled in his stomach. Lucas coughed, blood spewing everywhere.

We all ran over. I took Lucy from Levy, picking her up bridal style, seeing as the little wolf was staggering.

I breathed in the scent of Lucy's odd vanilla-strawberry combination. Please don't let her leave, don't let her die like Aurora.

"I won't leave," Lucy murmured. I smiled.

Lucas had collapsed to the ground. The two were still attached. "Why?" Erza asked.

Lucas smiled. "You were family."

*Time skip because oH gOd I jUsT kIlLeD tWo ChArAcTeRs*

Five days. That's how long it took for us to get back to the pack. Romeo barreled into Wendy. I think they're together now.

Six days. That's how long it took before me and Lucy got together.

Seven days. That's how long it took before we told the pack what happened.

Perhaps it wasn't the best solution, but it worked. I missed the pack, and they missed us. Lucy's former pack joined Fairy Tail, forming some sort of a cult (????) within our borders.

Whatever happens next, I really hope it doesn't include me.

"Natsu!"

I turned around to see Luce carrying Happy. The cat did not want to leave.

"Luce!"

We kissed, short and sweet.

"Still thinking about them?" She asked.

I gaped. "How..."

"Did I know?" Luce asked, raising an eyebrow. She was finally comfortable around the pack enough to show human form. She smiled. "You're not good at concealing feelings."

I pouted. "Yes I am! I'm good at everything!"

"And that's why you're sooooooooo good at getting up. I definitely don't need to slap you awake."

Happy mewled as if in agreement.

"How dare you gang up against me!"

"I'm the second Alpha, Natsu. Don't forget I can still beat you."

"But..."

"Nope. We're mates now. You're not allowed to contradict what I say."

I sighed, then smiled. I kissed the top of her strawberry head.

Yeah, I could really use a break.

828 words, and that's the end! There's gonna be an authors note later. But, thank you for sticking with me this year! You've been amazing.
