The smell of rain and mud still lingered in the atmosphere when the sun came up. One by one, the dwellers woke up to the pleasant weather. Autumn woke up last as sleep couldn't come to her the previous night after the weird events. She wasn't sure if it had actually happened, or if she had been dreaming or hallucinating.
Almost unconsciously, she rubbed the place she had felt the hand at and covered it with her hair. Autumn went downstairs to meet her friends for breakfast. She went into the kitchen where everyone else was setting up things on the table.
"Rise and shine," Adam cheered without looking up from a book he had borrowed from the library.
Autumn greeted back and joined Raymond behind the camp stove on the counter.
"When should we tell everyone about what happened last night?"
For a moment Autumn stood still, thinking how Raymond could have known what happened to her last night. Then she remembered the clothes incident and her hearing some voices one.
"While having breakfast, maybe." Autumn shrugged. "I don't really want anyone to freak out."
Raymond smiled and looked up. He was about to say something when his eyes landed on her neck.
"What the bloody hell happened to you?!"
Startled, Autumn jumped and her hand came in contact with the sizzling hot pan. She yelped in pain and quickly covered her hand with the scarf around her neck.
By now, everyone's attention was on her. Concerned and worrisome looks followed her every move.
"Are you alright?" Kaylee asked as Talia handed her sister a bottle of cold water.
Autumn nodded with her lips pursed. She poured the water on her hand. "I'll be fine."
She turned around and her eyes found Raymond, who had a small scowl plastered on his face. Though, the scowl was not directed towards her.
"What happened to your neck?" He asked cautiously.
It was like his words made Autumn's hair disappear and everyone's gaze fell on the ugly, red and purple handprint on her neck.
Gasps erupted from everyone's throat. Autumn stood completely confused.
"What?"
Taking out his phone, Raymond took a picture and showed it to his best friend. At the sight in front of her, Autumn gaped. Her face paled and she swallowed hard.
It was, woefully, true that the events of last night had not been a nightmare like she had hoped. The bruise on her neck was proof of that and was bigger than expected. The skin was raw and burned, yet she didn't feel pain.
Behind her, her friends stood worried and looked at her with questioning eyes. She looked back at them with furrowed brows and a grave expression.
"What happened, Autumn?"
The women looked reluctant. She looked at every face and then dived into telling them what had happened the night before. Once she was done, she urged Raymond to tell everyone about his experience.
"Something happened to you too?" Adam asked with wide eyes.
Raymond nodded. He dictated his ordeal, but autumn stayed silent about having heard voices before.
The three listeners in the room stood speechless. Their hearts all raced faster as they shared their concerns.
"What now?" Kaylee asked.
"Maybe..." Autumn started, the thought of figuring everything out before leaving being there in her mind, "maybe we should only stay for another day or two and then just... leave."
