During the summer our company had a small family carnival for the employees. Since Steve had spent enough time at the plant he opted out to stay home in our woods instead. I did the dutiful grandparent thing and took my grandsons to the event. It was free for all the rides, food and games. My youngest grandson Zack, loved playing on the big pumped up slides. He spent the whole afternoon going from slide to slide. Damion the cool older brother, played the games and eyed up my supervisor's daughter. I spent the time visiting with some of my friends on first shift that I don't see too often.
After awhile I meet up with a friend from my shift and we walked around. Her daughter and baby granddaughter were there playing the games. Patty and I stood at the biggest slide where Zack was sliding down for the umpteenth time.
"That looks like fun" Patty said.
"Yeah it does. I've been thinking about doing it all afternoon." I said with a smile.
"Really?" Patty said "So have I!"
We both looked at each other and laughed. "Last one up there is an old woman!!!" I yelled running up to the slide. We both made it to the slide just as Zack came down. He looked at Patty and me and asked us what were we going to do.
"Why were going up the slide Zack." I told him. He just stood there and stared at us.
"No way!" he said "you're both too old for that." Got to love that kid! He turned from us and looked for his brother, found him over by the game booths and he ran to get him. As Zack took off he yelled "Don't go down the slide yet. Wait till I get back." Well we waited for a few minutes to let the crowd of kids go and slide. You know the better safe than sorry theory.
After a few minutes both boys are back. Damion looks at us and then to the slide. "You going up there Nanny?"
"Yep were going up there. Here hold my purse while we try this."
"Nanny, where's your cellphone I'm going to take a picture of this. Pop will never believe it!"
"Yeah" says Zack "that way we have a picture to remember you by!"
"Remember me by? Why Zack" I asked.
"Cause you're going to have a heart attack if you try to climb up the slide Nanny. You're old!"
By that time a crowd of kids had gathered around us waiting to see if it was safe to go up the slide. Patty and I looked at each other. "So you think I can't do this? I'll show you! Come on Patty Lets show them a thing or two!" And up we climbed amidst laughs, shout and giggles.
The first time down we slided like ladies. Next time down we hopped up and belly flopped. It was great! I wanted to get one to take home to play with. Each climb up however was going slower and slower but ahhh, the trip down was exhilarating! The last time down however when I jumped up and did a somersault I landed wrong and skinned my elbow, but hey it was worth it. And so was the cotton candy! WHEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
