Third Person POV

"Defendant is there anything you'd like to say to the court before the verdict is announced?"
"Yeah... one thing.."
"Alright, go ahead."
"Mr. Lawyer?"
Phoenix looked up from his papers,
"Yes?"
"You failed me.."
"I'm.. aware."
"Hey! Mister we fight for the truth! Not just the verdict"
Maya interrupted.
"Well.. if I'm going down.. IM BRINGING YOU WITH ME!"
The defendant took a gun out of a secret pocket in his jacket.
"How?!"
How do you get a gun into the court.
Suddenly. Gunshots. The defendant was shooting.
Miles was sent into a trance from the sudden noise.
Two bullets grazed Phoenix and he fell to the ground and took maya with him making sure she didn't get hurt. He shot at the jury as well. Bailiffs rushed in and took the shooter down.
"NICK?!"
Miles was snapped out of his daze by the sound of Maya screaming for help.
He rushed over to the other side of the court room.
"Gah! Wright?!"
Phoenix gritted his teeth. The pain was intese.
The bailiffs had no idea what to do with the defence attorney on the ground and just went to get an ambulance. Miles took control of the situation. "Ms. Fey take this. Apply pressure to the wound."
Miles took his coat and gave it to Maya. He took off his vest and put it on Phoenix's other wound to try and stop the bleeding. He took his free hand and called the detective. He wasn't at the courthouse at the time. Miles knew he would need someone there other then the police. Someone he could trust.
"M-Maya.."
"Nick?! Nick please stay with us!"
"Maya.. I want you to know I care about you. So much. It's probably un-healthy.. Don't slack off on your training okay? Tell Pearl's I said bye."
"Nick please!"
"M-Miles.."
"Huh?"
"I care about you aswell. I'm so happy you finnaly started talking to me after all the times I tried to contact you. I want you to know that."
"Of course I know! Please save what your going to say. Focus on your breathing."
The defense attorney locked eyes with the silver haired man in front of him. His voice was weak and he spoke right above a whisper.
"I'm so sorry..."
"Phoenix! Stay with us!"
"Nick?! Nick!?! NICK PLEASE! NONONONO! PLEASE NICK! I DON'T WANT TO LOOSE YOU TOO! NICK!"
Tears slid down Maya's cheeks. She felt then as they fell onto Phoenix's blood stained suit.
Phoenix closed his eyes and passed out from the blood loss.

Miles' POV

I'm scared. I'm really scared. No matter how much I try to suppress the feeling it's always there. I don't want him to die. I want to see that stupid grin he always wears. I want to see him happy again. But his expression is bland. I wont lie. I miss him. It's only been a few hours since the paramedics came and took Phoenix into the ambulance. I rode in it with Maya. She was crying  a lot. I let her cry into my shoulder since she really seemed like she needed a hug and someone to tell her whole world isn't going to end. But I couldn't be that person. I'm not good at comforting people.

Before Phoenix got his room I had directed Maya to wash up. Since I had asked her to help with the wound she had got a bit of blood on her hands. It was a horrid sight.. I had also got blood on my arms. I rolled up my sleeves and washed my hands and wrists. I also splashed cold water onto my face. It helped keep me awake.

But we're sitting in the hospital. It's about 7 PM. I've been sitting in a chair next to his bed, holding his wrist. It's warm.. not very warm.. but enough to still feel. I really hope he's okay..

"M-Mr. Edgeworth?"

"Yes?"
I looked at Maya. Her cheeks were stained with her tears.
"Nick's gonna be alright.. right?"
"I... don't know.."
"I'm so scared.."
"All we can do right now is hope he'll be okay."
"Yeah.."
"If you don't mind me asking.. how close are you to him?"
"Oh. Were best friends! Practically siblings."
"That's good. He doesn't hide anything from you does he?"
"Not that I know of.. Buuuut.. There is something he's been hiding from someone though.."
"What do you mean..?"
Suddenly I heard shuffling. I looked away from Maya towards the man in the bed. Slowly Phoenix opened his eyes. A rush of relief came over me.

Third person POV

Phoenix blinked a few times letting his eyes adjust to the bright lights above him. His shoulder felt sore. He moved his arm a bit and rustled the sheet around from underneath his hip.
"Nick!"
"Maya?"
"Ohmygosh! I'm so happy you're alright!"
"Wha-"
His sentence was cut off by Maya hugging him.
"Ow.."
"Ah! Sorry! I must've hurt your wound.. I'm just so glad to see you're okay."
"It's good to see you're awake, Wright."
Phoenix looked past Maya and saw Miles sitting in a chair next to his bed.
"Ah. Miles! I didnt notice you were there."
"It's alright."
"Do you remember anything?"
"No.."
"Well then allow me to fill you in, will you be able to pay attention?"
"I think I can.. I'd like to know what happened thought."
"Alright then.. Can you at least tell me what you do remember..?"
"Well... I remember we were in court.. and.. uhm.. I felt burning on my shoulder and near my waist.. and I felt like I needed to get Maya under the desk.. That's all I guess."
"Okay so I'll start off from when the verdict was about to be announced.."
So for the next 8 minutes, Miles explained everything that happened to Phoenix.
"Oh.. I.. see."
"Would you like time to process this?"
"No. I like having the company."
"Nick I was so worried.. I'm so happy you're okay..."
"Hey now Maya, don't get all sappy.. I'm okay and that's what matters."
"I.. I know."
"Did either of you get hurt?"
"No."
"Nope.."
"Good.. I'm glad that neither of you were harmed. I'd rather it be me then either of you.."
"Nick! Don't say that.."
"It's true though.. I'm just relieved you two are okay. Did you tell anyone else about this?"
"I've called few people.. Excluding Larry.. Since he wouldn't handle this well.."
Phoenix managed to crack a small smile, "He wouldn't.."
"Still in pain?"
"Not really.. The medication the doctors gave me helped I guess."
"Yay! You're feeling better then?"
Phoenix wasn't feeling better. He was still in pain. He just didn't want to worry his friends.
"Quit hiding it."
"Huh?" Phoenix was startled. He didn't know why Miles was speaking so sharply.
"Don't try to hide it. You're still in pain."
"I have no idea what you mean."
"Mhm. It's pretty easy to see it."
A groan slipped from Phoenix, "How do you always see right through me?"
"We've known each other forever now."
"Yeeaah.."
Suddenly a catchy tune came from Maya's direction.
"Ah! I've got a call.. I'll be right back!"
Maya walked out of the room and begun her phone call.
"Wow.. Must have been important."
"What do you mean?"
"She usually just takes calls in front of people.."
"So you're still hurting?"
"Mhm.."
"Please.. Don't lie like that."

"Huh," Phoenix was confused by what Miles said to him, "wha..?"
"There are people who need you to say the truth. You should know this."
"Well.. Who..?"
"All the people who care about you. How are we going to help you out if you lie to us?"
"You wont."
