Miles' POV

We made it to my house fairly quickly. I wasn't lieing when I said it was close. I made my way down the walkway and stopped at the door. I put in my key and turned it. I opened my door and felt the heat pouring out from the inside.
"Go ahead."
"Woah... Your house is big."
Trucy looked mesmerised as she stepped into my home.
"Do you want our shoes off?"
"Please."
"Truce shoes off."
"Mkay!"
I looked to the two.
"You can put them near the closet."
"I never knew you had such an extravagant place."
"Really?"
"Though I wouldn't expect anything less."
Phoenix let out a small laugh. Hearing that made me think back. Back to when we were kids. When we were all in the park messing around, laughing until we couldn't anymore. When times were much simpler...
I shut my door and locked it, out of habit.
"You can sit if you'd like."
"Alright.."
Phoenix seemed to have loosened up. When I'd caught him in the park, he seemed so annoyed.
He sat himself on my couch.
"What about Trucy?"
"There's a guest bedroom up the stairs. She could stay in there."
"Is there a mirror?"
"Yes, why?"
"She does magic. It'd be good If she practiced."
"So I'm gonna practice my magic?"
"Yes just for a bit though."
"Could I show you?"
"Not now. How about when we get home?"
"Oh! Okay!"
"The room is up the stairs, first door on the left. Can't miss it."
"Alright!"
I saw her run up the stairs, almost slipping on every other stair.
"Okay. Why did you want me here?"
"I need answers."
Phoenix sighed. I walked over and sat next to him.
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"I tried to contact you. You never answered."
"I'm supposed to be asking the questions."
"Not now. Why didn't you ever respond to me? You know I have to be working. It's the only way I feel helpful. You knew how hard this would hit me. Yet, you did nothing. You never contacted me."
"I.."
I stared at the ground.
"Sorry won't cut it either. Sorry won't make everything better so don't even think about saying it. Unless you can prove you mean it."
He sounded irritated. I can understand why.
"I was wrong. I should've been there for you when you first were disbarred. I was afraid. I had no idea what I was supposed to say. I still don't. You know how bad I am at socializing.."
"We've know each other since we were kids, and you still don't know how to talk to me?"
"Apparently.."
"It's taking all my energy not to get angry at you, Miles. I don't want to yell and let Trucy hear."
"You did really well with her.."
"Alright. What were you going ask me?"
"I-I.. don't remember..."
The questions I had rehearsed in my head for all this time.. I really can't remember..
"Then I'll take my leave. If you don't have any questions for me, I'm not staying."
"Wait. I.."
"What? Why don't you want me to leave?"
"I-I.. I don't k-know.."
I don't understand.. why don't I want him to leave..?

Third Person POV

"Why'd you adopt Trucy?"
That was the first thing that came to Miles' mind.
"I said I'd take care of her. And so I did."
Phoenix kept his answers short.
"That's it?"
"Yep."
Miles let his eyes wonder around the room until they hit the kitchen.
"Would you like some tea?"
Phoenix looked towards Miles.
"Sure."
"Alright."
Miles stood up and walked off.
Phoenix took the time he was alone to think. It was only five minutes.
A part of his mind told him to leave. Leave then and there. Get Trucy and walk out. But another part of him said to wait. Its a good opportunity to learn what Miles was thinking.

Miles thought to himself aswell. Why didn't he contact Phoenix? Was he scared? Maybe.
I still don't understand... Why.. why can't I.. I don't know how to say what I.. feel..

Miles' POV

I shook my head and dismissed the thoughts from my mind. I poured two cups and walked out of the kitchen. There he was, still sitting in the same position. I walked over to him and placed the cup in his hands.
"Here you go."
"Thank you."
"Are you feeling alright?"
"Yes. Why?"
"You seem.. slim.."
He really does look a bit thinner then I remember..
"I'm perfectly fine."
Should I.. I don't want to push him too far. He may leave if I badger him.
I sat down and Phoenix looked towards me.
"As much as it pains me admit it.. I missed you, Miles."
"A-ah.. I .. missed you too.."
"Why didn't you contact me? I would've appreciated it if you at least acknowledged what happened."
"I.. know. I should've called you. I don't know why I didn't. I'm at a loss for words right now.."
"It's alright.."
This is so damn awkward. Why can't I talk to him? I know him. I know who he is.. I can't think of what to say..
Suddenly a loud noise came from up the stairs.
"Trucy?!"
Phoenix stood up, put the tea cup on the coffee table, and quickly walked towards the stairs. I followed along behind him.

Phoenix's POV

I walked up the stairs and looking in the room Miles instructed Trucy to go into. I'm worried that she may have hurt herself.
"Truce?"
"O-oh.. Hi Daddy.."
"What.. what happened?"
I saw her sitting on the floor.
"I dropped a prop when I was practicing, it kinda scared me so.. I took a minute to call myself down."
"Thank God. You didn't hurt yourself did you?"
"No.. I'm okay."
"That's good."
"I'm gonna keep practicing!"
"Be careful."
"I will!"
I smiled at her as she jumped up from where she was sitting.
"That scared me half to death.."
"I was a bit worried myself."
I sighed out of relief. I thought she hurt herself..
"How about we go back downstairs?"
"Yeah.. sure.."
I looked back to Trucy. She was practicing her stance when she does tricks. I smiled and made my way down the stairs. I started to walk toward the couch when miles spoke.
"I.. Phoenix I'm sorry."
"I already told you not to say sorry unless you can pro-"
I turned around as I spoke but got cut off.

Third Person POV

Miles decided then and there he was going to shoot his shot. He kissed Phoenix. The man he loved for years. He kissed him. Phoenix stood, shocked, but loosened up a bit. He knew holding a grudge wouldn't do anything now. Who was he kidding? He wanted this. Ever since the start and if he pulled away now, Miles would slip through the cracks again. He grabbed Miles' waist and pulled him in. Miles' hands snaked around Phoenix's shoulders and his arms rested near the others neck. They stood there for what seemed like hours, though it was only thirty seconds. They pulled away from each other slowly. Miles' eyes stayed locked on the ground. Phoenix, on the other hand, looked right at Miles' face taking in every single detail.
"I.."
"I love you."
Miles looked up quickly, his face flushed.
"I.. love y-you too.. but.. I suppose that's obvious now."
"I wish this was a bit more.. romantic, I guess, not how I expected our confessions to go..." Phoenix took a step back so he could get a good look at Miles, "Nonetheless I'm.. glad we ran into each other."
"I am too, and again.. sorry."
"Apology accepted.." Phoenix paused, "Random question.. I.. would you like to.. come see Trucy preform?"
"R-really?"
"Of course! It.. would give us time to catch up. Plus, I think Trucy takes a  liking to you.."
"You think so?"
"Yes. I can just tell."
"Then I'd love to."
"Thing is.. it's today."
"That's good. I'm not working for the rest of today."
"Wow.. you're usually working.. I was expecting you to he busy."
"I wouldn't miss this for the world."
"Remember you're not completely off the hook though. It's going to take me a bit for you to gain my full trust again."
"Of course..."
How do I say sorry and say it with meaning?
I'm sorry I disappeared again.
I'm sorry I didn't contact you.
I'm sorry I wasn't there for you when you really needed a friend.
I'm sorry I made it seem like I didn't care.
I'm sorry I'm such a coward.
I'm sorry for hiding myself..
I'm sorry you love me...
I'm sorry..
I'm so sorry...
Miles repeatedly apologized in his mind. A sorry for everything he did wrong. For every fight he caused. For every time he was out of line. For all the times he ignored his best friend. He was sorry. He just had no idea how to say it out loud. How could he go back and apologise for all his wrongs?
Suddenly an idea hit him. He knew exactly what he was going to say.
