The girl slid into the old, damaged building as she pulled down her umbrella - the rain softly brushing against her soft brown hair. The derelict building was freezing - it was almost like ice was being pumped through the pipes and out from the cracks in the ceiling.
Her eyes laid upon the grafitied brick walls and metal detectors - giving a small but soft smirk - it was definatley a unique building.
This petite woman definitely did not belong here: with her pretty pink lips and bright shining eyes, she stuck out like a sore thumb - she was a rose in a garden of thorns.
The officer behind the desk watched her, questioning what a girl like her was doing in a place like this. "Miss... Are you lost?" he asked, not taking his eyes if the innocence stood infront of him.
"This is Southside High? Right?" she asked with a thick British accident. She smiled at the officer. He did not return the smile, instead he exchanged a small scowl with his brows furrowed.
"You must be Eva Anderson?" he stated standing up from his desk. She nodded softly and wandered up to the desk, slightly intimidated by his scowl. He pulled out a dull grey tray and sighed, sick of repeating the same words every day, "Please place your bag in here with all metal items such as belts and keys along with electrical devices such as phones."
His voice was almost robotic, boring and full of loneliness. His uniform matched his personality, which matched his desk - grey. He was quite the opposite of the rainbow girl stood infront of him.
She pulled off her cute, white floral backpack and removed her phone from her pocket, placing it in the grey tray. She stepped through the metal detectors.
"All clear." the officer grumbled, almost like he was hoping for the opposite. He handed her bag back, slowly picking up her phone. He stared deeply into the small polorid that the slick, clear case held. His eyes lingered, looking at the small photo of a young girl next to a small boy.
The girl noticed him staring, "It's my brother... He -" the girl started.
"Did I ask?" he growled, staring daggers at the tiny girl infront of him. Eva staggered back, shocked at his sudden outburst. "I... I'm sorry..." she said softly, eyes darting back to the ground.
"Here," he passed her the iPhone back, "I'd keep that somewhere safe if I were you, people round here aren't the nicest when it comes to people like you..."His warning seemed sinsere, even though he hated his job he couldn't help but feel sorry for the young girl. "Thank you. I'll keep it in mind." she smiled, securing the back pack over her shoulders. She stood, shivering in the hall, to afraid to ask what to do next. An awkward silence filled the hallway.
The guard looked at her up and down, a scowl scoring lines into his face. Why was she still here? "The office is just through there, you can get your student ID and timetable."
The girl nodded, "Thank you Sir!"
