"Agh, my head...." Adam grunted. He sat up and winced at his ribs. He looked around, "How the hell did I get in here?" He tried to get up but flinched some more, "Ah! That does explain the ribs though." Adam carefully stood up and tried to ignore the pain and saw the note on the counter:

Stop being a fucking idiot. Please don't ever wake me up again. Here's some Advil for the headache.

Fuck off,

Ryland

Adam blushed at the kindness of his cold roommate. He swiftly swallowed the pill with water and left the bathroom. He looked over to Ryland's side to see a lump under the covers. Adam showered quickly and blew a kiss as he left the room.

Adam walked in the baseball locker room to see Gian laying on the floor. Adam walked casually to his locker and opened it. "I suspect something is wrong, Gian?" Adam said as he grabbed his bat and helmet. " He rolled over and groaned, "I saw cute girl yesterday, and I wanted to talk to her but I forgot how to speak..." Adam slammed his locker closed as he spun around, "Oh my God! You have a crush! Is she cute, what does she look like? Did she look at you back?"

Gian sat up and scrunched his face at his friend, "I do not know, I saw her walk past me and I panic and run. I just want another chance to speak with her." Adam jumped on the sink counter and pointed his finger at Gian, "Duuuuude, I will so totally help you! You are going to get another chance or I'm a monkey's uncle!" Gian stood up and chuckled, "Well you certainly are a monkey, for you are really not tall."

Adam's face dropped at the comment, he slipped of the counter, picked up his helmet and bat and walked out the door, "To you, that's just because you're bigfoot...All hairy and tall" "YOu smAll shiT!!!" Gian screamed out the door.

Ryland sat up and yawned. He reached for his flip phone and checked for messages. Nothing. He rolled over and debated on what to do to waste the day away. I could go workout, maybe drink. He rolled to face his messy desk, I could actually do my summer work. Drink first, then work.

Ryland pulled out a pink pony duffel-bag, unzipping it to reveal multiple bottles of alcohol. He picked out a big bottle of vodka and took a huge swig. Getting up to do his work, he took his bottle with him. After a few buzzed and hard-working hours Ryland leaned back in his chair and sighed, "That took longer than expected. Jesus, why'd that take so fucking long." He dropped the now empty bottle on the floor. Getting out of the chair he kicked it under his bed. He pulled out his phone and checked the time: 3:45. "God-dammit, It wasn't even that long!" Ryland grumpily grabbed some clothes and stormed into the bathroom. He saw his note on the counter with a missing glass and pill. "Glad someone else is gonna have a less shittier day than me," he grumbled as he turned on the shower.

Adam, Gian, and the rest of the baseball team walked in a sweaty pack into the locker room. While dudes raced to the shower first and fighting over first dibs, Adam locked up his gear and grabbed his backpack, "You know I'll just shower at my dorm, seems a little easier to me. See ya Gian." Gian, didn't even glance as he said, "Whatever you say, monkey-boy. Good-bye, Adam."

Walking in the door to his dorm, Adam saw Ryland walk out of the bathroom, "Hey, uh, thanks for the note. I'm sorry if I was a little obnoxious last night. Heh, I promise I won't do that anymore." Ryland sneered at him as if he was a piece of gum on his shoe, "Whatever, don't talk to me. " And with that, Ryland shoved Adam out of the way and left the dorm. Adam threw his bag on his bed, grabbed clean clothes, and made his way to the shower.

I don't know why I keep thinking of him so much, he doesn't even think of me. I need to find something to keep myself busy. Adam thought as the cool water hit his face. Too bad he's straight though, he's actually really cute. Shutting the water off, Adam dried off and dressed. Entering the main area, he picked his phone and dialed Paulina, "Hey, you want to hang out?"

Ryland stepped off the bus in front of the hospital, he approached the receptionist at the front desk, "Visiting Volkov Umir. I'm his son." The lady typed a few words and asked, "Ryland?" He nodded. "Mr. Volkov is in room 1991 on floor 4" Ryland thanked her and headed for the elevator.

Walking in the door, Ryland stopped and scowled. Ustinya and Bohdona were here. Umir looked over his shoulder, "Rye! I'm so glad you came! How good it is to see you and your sisters here all together." Ustinya crossed her arms, "It's not like we planned this, I didn't expect this bitch to show up." Bohdona lightly tapped her sister on her arm, "Either way, papa is happy we're all here." Ryland walked to the side of Umir's bed, "Well where's Katz? Wouldn't he be here as well?" Ustinya leaned back, "He's on some business trip in fucking England." Umir held his hand up, "It is quite all right, he called me earlier today wishing me well, he does his best with his occupation." Ustinya threw her hands up, "Whatever, Bo and I need to go anyway. Love you papa, We'll see you tomorrow." She walked out the door not waiting for her sister who bent down to kiss Umir on the cheek, "I'm sorry papa, I'll talk to her in the car. Love you. Bye Rye." And she quickly walked out the door to catch up with Ustinya. Ryland sat on the bed, "Ustinya gives me a fucking headache." Umir rubbed his son's back, "Ah, but she is your sister. I know you love her." He sat up and touched Ryland's beard, "But Rye, you must shave. You are starting to look more like bear than my son." Ryland sighed, "I'll get to that when I get back to my dorm, papa."

Adam walked in the bookstore and glanced around, spotting Paulina he walked over and sat down. "I was waiting for when you were gonna call me," Paulina giggled. Adam leaned back into his chair, "I was really in need of something to occupy my mind, and I knew you didn't hate me, so here I am." Paulina chuckled, "Occupy? From what? Classes haven't even started yet, what do you need a distraction from?" Tucking his hair behind his ear he said, "My roommate, he's cold as much as he's attractive." "Attractive, what? I'm not understanding?" Paulina asked. Adam smacked his hand over his mouth, "Shit, I haven't told you, have I?" Paulina reached over to pull Adam's hand off his mouth, "Are you?" She lowered her voice to a whisper, "A homosexual?" Adam squeezed Paulina's hand, "Unfortunately yes, I used to get bullied back in high school for it. You aren't homophobic, are you." Looking a little hurt, she squeezed his hand back, "It's ok, your secret is safe with me, but to be honest I thought that this was a date..."

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I did not mean to lead you on. Oh god I'm so sorry." Adam grabbed Paulina's other  hand. "It's ok, I'm used to it," Paulina whispered. They sat in silence for a while, sympathy floating through the air between them. Adam spoke up, breaking the silence, "I actually have a friend you might be interested in. His name's Gian. He's really genuine, an honest guy. I think you two could get along. If you're willing to, that is" Paulina looked up, "Really? You think so? I mean I've been on plenty of blind dates before, they usually never go well. I mean I trust you, I really do. It's just that I'm a little uh-" She trailed off. "It's ok, I'll even watch from a distance, unless that makes me look creepy or whatever." Paulina eyes lit up with joy, "Alright, I'm in. Please put in a good word for me!" Adam laughed, "You bet I will."

Ryland got off the bus, once again, and walked past his dorm and across campus. He went inside another dorm building and went up a few flight of stairs. He stopped in front of door with the number 415 painted on. He knocked and stepped back to wait.
