i didn't feel like going home today.

there's no particular reason. i just really didn't feel like it.

this room is too cramped but what do you expect from a cyber shop? at least they've got good takoyaki. it makes everything a little bit better. whenever i'm hungover, i get really hungry.

i turn the small tv on, pick up the controller and start looking for a game to play. i only intend to stay here for a night. might as well make the best of it. there's something about being at a place like this that makes playing video games much more exciting. it's like entering a world of fantasy where people who also want to escape reality understand you.

i'm enclosed in my own tiny room, so it's not like i can talk or even want to talk to anyone...but the mere sounds of different video games and angry yelling from other people is enough to make me feel a little less annoyed right now.

why am i annoyed? i don't exactly know.

i hear some footsteps from right outside my door and the voice of the lady from the desk. she's talking to another man who seems to be complaining about not having a pillow. the woman clears things up by saying none of the rooms have pillows at all.

she's not lying.

"sir, if you can't sleep without one, then put your head on this bag."

"what's in it?"

"absolutely nothing. but it's what we give to customers who can't sleep on a flat futon."

"thanks but...it's not really for putting my head on."

silence comes after that.

is she insinuating he wants to grind on the pillow? what is going on?

"i...i need to cuddle something to fall asleep."

it takes about a minute for her to respond to that. "we have a machine for plushies. you can go ahead and try to win one from there. it's right at the back where we also have snack and soft drinks machines. here's your key. please don't hesitate to come up to the front desk if you need anything else again or use the telephone in your room. have a good evening."

i can just hear her wanting to scream inside her head right now.

as soon as i hear her walk away, i open my curtains, accidentally startling the man standing outside.

"oh, you again." he says to me.

"excuse me?"

"you were at the front desk earlier."

"and?"

"nothing." he starts walking away to where i assume would be the stuffies machines.

"hey! wait up!" i stand up way too fast, i hit my head on where the curtains are hanging from. he seems surprised but he stops for me anyway.

"can i help you?" he asks.

"well, actually. i'm really good at those. i wanna do it. if you want my help. i'm pretty bored and all so."

"sorry?"

"stuffies."

"stuffies? oh! right! sorry. i haven't eaten all day. my brain hurts and i cannot process words right now."

"i can tell. follow my lead, kiddo."

i really don't appreciate him calling me that.
