Can't Run From You

Chapter 24

It's been three days since the meet. I haven't spoken to Eli at all except for the occasional greetings or something about track. Eli and Lucy didn't even sit with us during lunch Thursday and Friday. I'm not going to lie, it really hurt to see them across the cafeteria.

I woke up Saturday morning to my alarm going off. I had set it for 9:15 because Will has a scrimmage at 10. I dragged myself out of bed, brushed my teeth, got dressed and headed down stairs. My parents were already up and making eggs and bacon.

"Morning sweetie. Where are you going?" my mom asked as she kept cooking.

"Will has a scrimmage at 10 so I'm going to pick up Molly and go."

"What happened to Eli? I haven't seen her in a while?" my dad said as he drank his coffee at the table. The question nearly gave me a heart attack.

"She's just been busy lately." Although it was a lame excuse it seemed to satisfy their curiosity. After I ate breakfast I texted Molly and asked if she was ready to go. She text back within seconds saying "yessss :)"

Molly and I got to the fields at around 9:45ish. Molly likes to get here early and check out the baseball boys. She's been crushing really hard on this guy names Matt that plays with Will. Mat is tall and super-hot. He has green eyes but light brown hair. He has this amazing natural tan going on too, total opposite of Will but still super-hot. We walked past the dugout and up to the top right corner of the bleachers, our favorite spot.

"Oh, look there's Matt." Molly squealed. Mat was the catcher and he looked great in his catcher's gear, or at least that's what Molly kept saying. The rest of the boys were at their spots throwing the ball back and forth. You know that thing they do where the first baseman throws ground balls to the other bases and so forth. Will was as shortstop as usual and he looked good. He was throwing fast and accurately and he looked good doing it. He had his head in the game and he was focused. Since it was a home scrimmage the boys were in their black jersey and they looked great. I was watching the other teams batter walk up to home plate for the first pitch when I saw Eli and Lucy walk up to the bleachers and sit down on some of the bottom rows. Eli was in white shorts that fit perfectly and a black tank top that showed off her belly button ring with her sunglasses on. She looked up and smiled at me then sat down. I hit Molly's arm and gave her a 'what the fuck' look.

"Hey don't hit me. I didn't know they were coming."

"Text Lucy and ask why the hell they're here."

Eli's POV

I was so beautifully asleep that when my phone rang I didn't wake up. I was so asleep that I didn't hear my door open. I was not asleep when Lucy jumped on my bed and woke me up.

"What the fuck?" I screamed more out of fear than anger.

"Get up we're going to a baseball game." She screamed at me.

"Ugh why?" I put the pillow over my head

"Because Thea and Molly are going to be there and I want to check out baseball guys."

"And why is my presence necessary in this situation?" Even at 9 in the morning I was still a smart ass.

"Because Thea thinks I'm on your side of this whole mess and feels like I should just stay with you so to speak. And I want to check out guys so get up!" She whined the last part.

"Fine." I rolled my eyes and got up to get dressed. I came out in shorts and a t-shirt and Lucy just looked me up and down.

"You can't wear that." She said

"Why not?"

"Because for one I look over dressed next to you and Thea's going to be there so you have to look good." I rolled my eyes again and grabbed some different clothes and changed. When I came out of the bathroom I stuck my arms out and turned so Lucy could see what I'm wearing.

"Better?" I asked

"Yes, now let's go. I want to get food first. Also, you're driving because your jeep is cooler than my car." Again, I rolled my eyes but this time I smiled.

When we got to the fields put my sunglasses on and got out of the jeep. I didn't feel like holding my keys so I gave them to Lucy who put them in her purse. Since it was just a scrimmage we didn't have to pay to get in. We walked past the dugout and to the bleachers. I just so happened to look up when Thea was looking at me. I gave her a little grin and sat down. This whole being petty thing really isn't my style but it sure was fun.

"Okay so you see that guy on first base?" Lucy asked out of nowhere.

"Yeah?" I was trying to sound like I was interested.

"He's so hot. His name is Jacob and he's just so freaking cute."

"He is really cute. And he looks good in those pants." I was trying to sound as straight as possible for her sake but if I'm being honest I couldn't even see him very well from here. We went through two innings talking about guys and other things I'm not very involved in. Lucy really was a girly girl. At the end of the third inning Thea walked down the bleachers and right past us to the bathroom. When she walked in I started to get up.

"What are you doing?" Lucy asked with a cocked eyebrow.

"Something stupid." I smiled. I walked to the bathroom and opened the door. Thea was standing in front of the mirror fixing her hair or something I don't know.

"How did I know you'd follow me in here?" She said turning around and leaning against the sink.

"Because apparently bathrooms are the only place we are ever alone." At this she just smiled a little bit. I took a step closer.

"Why are we always in the bathroom?" I just laughed

"Because there's always a game or a track meet or something going on. But I mean we can go to my jeep if you want a change of scenery." Two steps forward.

"And what makes you think I'm going to go to your jeep?" I was right in front of her. I leaned into her ear and put my hand on her wrist.

"Because you want me." I moved my hand from her wrist up to her forearm and I could feel the goose bumps running up and down her arm. I snaked my other arm around her waist and pulled her into me. She didn't fight me or pull back. It felt so good to have her in my arms again. I looked past her for a second and looked at myself in the mirror. My stupid eyes were yellow again. When I looked back at Thea she gave me a devilish grin and leaned into me. When she put her lips on mine and I couldn't help but smile. The kiss was small and closed at first. I felt her wrap her arms around my neck. I felt her lick my bottom lip just a little bit so I opened my mouth just a bit and then felt her tongue in my mouth. It felt like we were in perfect sync. I ran my hand down to her butt. I couldn't help it, she had such a nice one. Next thing I know, she's biting my bottom lip and driving me absolutely insane. She pulled back with my lip still in between her teeth. With that she left me still in a daze and started to walk out. Hell no that's not how this is ending. I grabbed her wrist and pulled her back into me and pushed her against the wall.

"You're not getting out of this that easy." I said as I started to kiss her neck.

"Eli if you leave a mark I swear I'll kill you. The other one just went away."

"Mhmmm." I hummed against her neck. I couldn't help it. I wanted to leave a mark. She wasn't mine, but she was mine.

"Eli stoooopppp." She said as I bit her neck just a little bit. I came back up to her lips and did what she did to me. I bit her lip and pulled back, then I walked out. She definitely wasn't going to get the last word, or kiss whatever. When I walked back to the bleachers I sat down with Lucy. Will was on deck and right in front of us. A couple seconds later and Thea walked by. She had her hand on her neck, I know I left a mark. This petty shit sure was fun.

"You're absolutely insane." Lucy said as I sat down. I just gave her a wink and watched as Will was still looking at Thea, who was climbing up the bleachers. This was going to be a fun game.
